This is the Coffee House Wall for this week. I won’t say that it is your chance to communicate with us, as we are all in this together. It is, nevertheless, the Conservative Blog post that has no particular theme, and where everything is on topic. Let’s just remember that we want to avoid ad hominem attacks on others. We don’t want to engage with trolls. We want to moderate our language ourselves as responsible and mature adults, choosing to use fruity language only where it is necessary. This is our opportunity to show what the Spectator Coffee House Wall could have been like.

Is there any connection between these two events? Miliband was hit by an egg when he visited a London street market. The House of Commons has banned scrambled eggs and omelettes made from fresh eggs as being a risk to health. Only liquid egg from Holland must be used, as according to EU directorates this is safer. Is there a connection here?

Are you for real?
“Are you for real?”
If you’re looking for reality, WTF are you wasting your time here? You got lots of that shit around you on that side of the Pond and it’s far more disturbing than this wee segment of the fantasy ether.
‘Are you for real” is a piss poor riposte. An occasional killer of a Manhattan one-liner would be welcome, FTTT. You’re letting the side down (in keeping with about 60% of your compatriots at this period of history, of course, but that’s not the point: we expect better repartee here and “Are you for real?” just doesn’t cut it. It doesn’t even bring out the worst in ACP, never mind the best.

The Naught Niece is back in circulation after a protracted sabbatical. Her latest offering:
This letter was sent to a Chorley headmaster’s office after the school had sponsored a luncheon for local pensioners. An elderly lady received a new radio at the lunch as a door raffle prize and was writing to say thank you.
This story is a credit to all humankind.
Forward this to anyone you know who might need a lift today.
Dear Headmaster ,
God bless you for the beautiful radio I won at your recent Old Age Pensioners luncheon. I am 87 years old and live at a home for elderly ladies in Eccleston.
All of my family has passed away so I am all alone…. I want to thank you for the kindness you have shown to a forgotten old lady.
My neighbour is 95 and has always had her own radio; but, she would never let me listen to it. She said it belonged to her long dead husband, and understandably, wanted to keep it safe.
The other day her radio fell off the nightstand and broke into a dozen pieces. It was awful and she was in tears. She asked if she could listen to mine, and I was overjoyed to have the chance to tell her to fuck off.
Thank you for that wonderful opportunity.
God bless you all.
Ella.
One for JR’s conspiracy theory file. Jimmy Savile is not dead; he was warned of the coming shit-storm and exiled himself to Armenia where he took a job as conductor of a jazz orchestra. Photographic evidence is irrefutable – if a little fleeting (he obviously arranged for the cameras not to show too much of his presence, just in case), but if you watch carefully, you’ll see him:

Subject: Typical British
A grade three teacher is giving a lesson on nutrition, and she decides
to ask her students what they had for breakfast.
To add a spelling component, she asks the students to also spell their answers.
Susan puts up her hand and says she had an egg, ‘E-G-G’.
‘Very good’, says the teacher.
Peter says he had toast ‘T-O-A-S-T’.
‘Excellent.’
Johnny has his hand up and the teacher reluctantly calls on him.
‘I had bugger all’, he says, ‘ B-U-G-G-E-R-A-L-L’.
The teacher is mortified and scolds Johnny for his rude answer.
Later when the lesson turns to geography, she asks the students some
rudimentary questions.
Susan correctly identifies the Capital of Canada . Peter is able to
tell her which ocean is off Canada ‘s east coast.
When it’s Johnny’s turn, the teacher remembers his rude answer from
the nutrition lesson, and
decides to give him a very difficult question. Johnny, she asks,
‘Where is the Pakistani border?’
Johnny ponders the question and finally says, ‘The Pakistani boarder
is in bed with my mother. That’s why I got bugger all for breakfast’.

Hello Frank, it was Scarborough where he was finally laid to rest after what was almost a state funeral. Here is a news clip from The Yorkshire Evening Post prior to the day.
Sir Jimmy Savile is to be buried in a gold coffin, the YEP can reveal.
And fans of the Leeds legend will also get the chance to bid farewell to the city’s favourite son ahead of his funeral in Leeds next Wednesday.
The body of the 84-year-old, found dead at his home in Roundhay four days ago, will be placed in a gold coloured coffin at the Queen’s Hotel in Leeds, on Tuesday – although not in an open casket. It will be on display from 9am until 4.30pm on Tuesday when members of the public can pay their final respects.
The funeral, on Wednesday, November 9, at 2pm at St Anne’s Catholic Cathedral, will be preceded by a procession around the streets before the requiem Mass.
It is believed the cortege will drive past Leeds General Infirmary, where Sir Jimmy spent many happy years as a voluntary porter and visitor. It is also the place where he donated millions of pounds for research and equipment.
The cortege will drive past the place was born and brought up at Consort Terrace in Woodhouse.
The broadcasting legend is to be buried in Scarborough on a grassy hill top over looking the sea at Woodlands Cemetery, on Thursday November 10, at 12.30pm.

Fair few Muslim women, but quite a few had uncovered heads. In fact you would see families and some women had covered heads and others didnt.
So it would seem women have choice.
but there again they were of Turkish origin so that may be a factor.
And the conversations I heard I think were in German. But there again there seem to be no tolerance of other languages – the railways and u-bahn were german only. Odd bit of English -that was it.
But this got me thinking. The way to attack Islam is through the women. Say to them, you don’t have to be downtrodden and controlled by men. Make your own choices. For without subjugated women, Islam is far less.

It’s called Advocaat.
“Ugh! The old-codgers used to drink it with cherry brandy.”
When I was a child a much loved Uncle Harry Cantor would pretend to persuade my mother that giving his son and me a small glass of Peter Heering’s ‘Cherry Heering’ brandy diluted 50/50 with Warninks Advocaat was suitable for us twelve year olds.
Delicious.
if you go to parts of Flanders when you order a coffee you get a small glass of advocaat topped with cream.
Vlamms for cream is slagroom which always makes me snigger!
AWK1 mentioned Cherry Brandy, this reminded me that I made a small batch last year, it turned out very well so I kept a note of the recipe.
My first try at Cherry Brandy.
Started on the 22nd February 2012.
Ingredients.
Approximately 1¼lb of M&S top grade black cherries stones removed placed in a clean glass jar, these were topped up with Polish Pure Spirit 37.5cl at 79.9% alcohol by volume. I only used this because I had an old bottle that I had kept for many years, any good quality cheap brandy would do instead
I added sugar at the very end, to taste, as well as a two teaspoons of pure almond essence and two teaspoons of glycerine this after filtering and prior to bottling.
After a month I removed the cherries and blitzed them in a food processor to a fine pulp the better remove all of the juice and flavour and I then reintroduced the spirit with the intent of leaving one more week before straining and filtering.
This was superb.

Remember the old-time Jewish comedians of Vaudeville days – Shecky Green, Red Buttons, Totie Fields, Milton Berle, Henny Youngman, and others? You may have only heard of them, but don’t we all miss their kind of humor? Not a single swear word in their comic routines:
* A car hit an elderly Jewish man. The paramedic says, “Are you comfortable? ” The man says, “I make a good living.”
* I just got back from a pleasure trip. I took my mother-in-law to the airport.
* I’ve been in love with the same woman for 49 years. If my wife finds out, she’ll kill me!
* Someone stole all my credit cards, but I won’t be reporting it. The thief spends less than my wife did.
* We always hold hands. If I let go, she shops.
* My wife and I went to a hotel where we got a waterbed. My wife calls it the Dead Sea.
* My wife and I revisited the hotel where we spent our wedding night. This time I was the one who stayed in the bathroom and cried.
* My Wife was at the beauty shop for two hours. That was only for the estimate. She got a mudpack and looked great for two days. Then the mud fell off.
* The Doctor gave a man six months to live. The man couldn’t pay his bill, so the doctor gave him another six months.
* The Doctor called Mrs. Cohen saying, “Mrs. Cohen, your check came back.” Mrs. Cohen replied, “So did my arthritis!”
* Doctor: “You’ll live to be 60!” Patient: “I AM 60!” Doctor: “See! What did I tell you?”
* A doctor held a stethoscope up to a man’s chest. The man asks, “Doc, how do I stand? “The doctor says, “That’s what puzzles me!”
* Patient: “I have a ringing in my ears. ” Doctor: “Don’t answer!”
* A drunk was in front of a judge. The judge says, “You’ve been brought here for drinking. “The drunk says, “Okay, let’s get started.”
*Why do Jewish divorces cost so much? They’re worth it.
* Why do Jewish men die before their wives? They want to.
*The Harvard School of Medicine did a study of why Jewish women like Chinese food so much. The study revealed that the reason for this is because Won Ton spelled backward is Not Now.
*There is a big controversy on the Jewish view of when life begins. In Jewish tradition, the fetus is not considered viable until it graduates from law school.
Q : Why don’t Jewish mothers drink?
A : Alcohol interferes with their suffering.
*Q : Have you seen the newest Jewish-American-Princess horror movie?
A : It’s called, “Debbie Does Dishes.”
*Q : Why do Jewish mothers make great parole officers?
A : They never let anyone finish a sentence.
*A man called his mother in Florida . “Mom, how are you?” Not too good,” said the mother. “I’ve been very weak. “The son said, “Why are you so weak?” She said, “Because I haven’t eaten in 38 days. “The son said, “That’s terrible. Why haven’t you eaten in 38 days? “The mother answered, “Because, I didn’t want my mouth to be full in case you should call.”
*A Jewish man said that when he was growing up, they always had two choices for dinner – Take it or leave it.
*A Jewish boy comes home from school and tells his mother he has a part in the play. She asks, “What part is it?” The boy says, “I play the part of the Jewish husband. “The mother scowls and says, “Go back and tell the teacher you want a speaking part.”
Q : Where does a Jewish husband hide money from his wife?
A : Under the vacuum cleaner.
Q : How many Jewish mothers does it take to change a light bulb?
A : (Sigh) “Don’t bother. I’ll sit in the dark. I don’t want to be a nuisance to anybody.”
Short summary of every Jewish holiday: They tried to kill us, we won, let’s eat.
A Jewish mother gives her son a blue shirt and a brown shirt for his birthday. On the next visit, he wears the brown one. The mother says, “What’s the matter already? Didn’t you like the blue one?”
Did you hear about the bum who walked up to a Jewish mother on the street and said, “Lady I haven’t eaten in three days.” “Force yourself,” she replied.
Q : What’s the difference between a Rottweiler and a Jewish mother?
A : Eventually, the Rottweiler lets go.
Q : Why are Jewish Men circumcised?
A : Because Jewish women don’t like anything that isn’t 20% off
And this Jew is not joking:

NN backlog No 7 – her version of ‘history’:
IN THE 1500’S
The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water
temperature isn’t just how you like it, think about how things used to be.
Here are some interesting facts about the 1500s:
Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May
and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell,
so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odour.
Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.
Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water.
The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the
other sons and men, then the women and finally the children, Last of all the
babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in
it.
Hence the saying, ‘Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.’
Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath.
It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other
small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became
slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof.
Hence the saying ‘It’s raining cats and dogs.’
There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a
real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up
your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over
the top afforded some protection.
That’s how canopy beds came into existence.
The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt.
Hence the saying ‘dirt poor.’
The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet,
so they spread thresh (straw) on floor to help keep their footing. As the
winter wore on, they added more thresh until when you opened the door it
would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the
entranceway.
Hence the saying a ‘thresh hold.’
(Getting quite an education, aren’t you?)
In those good old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that
always hung over the fire. Every day they lit the fire and added things to
the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would
eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight
and then start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in it that had
been there for quite a while.
Hence the rhyme, ‘Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in
the pot nine days old.’
Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When
visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a
sign of wealth that a man could ‘bring home the bacon.’
They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around
and ‘chew the fat.’
Those with money had plates made of pewter.Food with high acid content
caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing a lead poisoning
death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or
so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.
Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the
loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or ‘upper crust.’
Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes
knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road
would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid out on
the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around
and eat and drink and wait to see if they would wake up.
Hence the custom of holding a ‘wake.’
England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places
to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a
‘bone-house’ and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25
coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realised
they had been burying people alive. So they would tie a string on the wrist
of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie
it to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the
‘graveyard shift’) to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be ‘saved by
the bell’ or was considered a ‘dead ringer.’
And that’s the truth.. Now, whoever said that History was boring! ! !
Is there something wrong with me that I find the Good Old Days to be enjoyable and wonder why our society has been so distorted that good old fashioned fun is now virtually illegal?

David, my late Father. who was one of nine boys and two girls, told how his mother made cherry brandy. The liquid was placed in a large ceramic jar and tiny raw dumplings (a Lithuanian delicacy) were added to mature in the brandy. Some of the little boys were naughty and used to steal the cherries. I always wished I had been a child in a large family. Savid, I will try your recipe. Thanks.
The word wake comes from the old English for watching. It was the night spent keeping watch with the one who had departed. It has the same sense as ‘the watches of the night’. It was a vigil kept on the night before burial.
Dead ringer comes from horse racing late in the 19th century. Saved by the bell is from boxing in the 1930’s.
Now what would be interesting would be to take some modern political jargonese and make up half-possible origins for it?
WARNING!
After the war, when my Dad came back from the army, he tried to make cherry brandy. In the night there was a terrible explosion – the wine/brandy had fermented. It was never made again 🙁

That was very illuminating indeed, thank you.

“…a Federal Judge thinks Big Ben Bernanke should answer questions on trial, and the Gov’t is attempting to block that. “The government is trying to block questioning of Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke in a lawsuit by the former head of American International Group Inc.
The Justice Department told a federal appeals court Friday that high-ranking officials should not have to testify except in extraordinary circumstances.
Former AIG CEO Hank Greenberg sued the government over the $182 billion bailout of the insurance giant that has since been repaid. Greenberg claims the bailout terms were too onerous and is seeking at least $25 billion.
It is rare for a Fed chairman to be questioned in a lawsuit, but U.S. Court of Federal Claims Judge Thomas Wheeler ruled that Bernanke has firsthand knowledge of the bailout and should undergo questioning. Justice wants the appeals court to order Wheeler to block the questioning.”
Chuck again. Oh great, so, the Gov’t doesn’t want Big Ben to talk under oath about what went on with AIG. If the Gov’t gets its way, then we’ve become a lawless society folks, it’s that simple.”

Is one smart aleck remark about the personal relationship between Glenn Greenwald and David Miranda, the only comment that this site can offer on the implications of Mr. Miranda’s detention at Heathrow under the Terrorist Act?
correction: Terrorism Act
I am still a little confused about the Miranda case. It seems it is being reported that he was carrying encrypted materials. That may or may not be a crime, but they may or may not have had information causing them to wish to interview him. The issue about him being a journalists boyfriend seems a red herring. Journalist’s boyfriends can be up to mischief as well.
Drudge Report is following the Miranda affair and one of the stories cited is:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/10253417/Encrypted-computer-files-seized-from-David-Miranda-were-from-US-whistleblower.html
Is this apparent abuse of power in the category of the recent forcing down of the Bolivian ambassador’s flight home from Russia? I don’t know – but I am trying to find time to read up.
Has anyone taken a proper look at the provisions of the Terrorism Act? My suspicion is that parliament gave an inch and our security agencies, acting as employees of others, took a mile.
Put otherwise: how is it in the interest of our country for our government to hound those who have been reporting a massive criminal breach of the Fourth Amendment of United States constitution?
Talking of advocaat, the first time i heard of the old Dutch manager Dick Advocat (pronounced the same) I thought it was some strange dutch sexual practice.
Working as an underage barman years ago, whenever I got a used advocaat glass back I used to just bin the bggr as they usually also came smeared with lipstick (yech!)
Lol. Well I think putting it that way answers the question.
But it would be interesting to read the Terrorism Act and see what it allows.

Schedule 7 gives an officer the power to stop and search a person to determine if they fall within the criteria of Section 40.1b which says…
Is or has been concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.
I would be asking on what basis it was decided that Miranda fell into such a category? There must surely have been prior intelligence if it were lawful, otherwise it was either fishing or harrassment.

We can’t , like, Greenwald, have it both ways. We either let the funnies get on with their job, or we bend over, Guardian fashion – and let the unholy alliance have its way with us. The Queensbury Rules don’t apply. And even Queensbury didn’t approve of some aspects of this affair, as Oscar learned, too late.

I have always admired Moshe Dayan.
What he wrested as just spoils when the invaders tried to crush Israel into oblivion in 1967 is theirs to do with as they wish.
You may have read this:-
Most international observers will find unremarkable the latest round of European Union boycotts against the Settlements, that is to say any Jewish community that happens to find itself located over the briefly maintained 1949 armistice lines. This move sits neatly within an ongoing pattern of European hostility towards Jews living in a vast array of places, ranging from much of Israel’s capital Jerusalem to Judaism’s next most holy and arguably most ancient city, Hevron.
At times this ongoing fixation has appeared almost farcical. On the same day in May of last year that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas once again stated his refusal to return to the negotiating table, the European Union was seemingly too busy announcing the publication of yet another report on Settlements to even notice. While Palestinian intransigence remains unshakable European foreign policy analysts obsessively count and recount the number of Jews living in Israel’s disputed territories and meanwhile the rest of the region precariously hurtles from one crisis to the next.
True, the Zionist national revival in general sits squarely counter to the post-nationalist universalism of the European project and the progressive march towards the no doubt thrilling dream of world government that so many eurocrats already speak fondly of. Palestinian Arab nationalism, as aggressive and fiercely intolerant as it may well be, is of course dressed up as an anti-colonial civil rights movement, one to which Europeans enthusiastically lend their support, perhaps in the hope of redeeming themselves of their own history.
Europeans, it seems were less troubled by Israel in its early incarnation; secular, socialist and for the most part territorially confined to the Mediterranean coastal plain. They refused, however, to recognise any Israeli claim to a capital in even the most outlying western suburbs of Jerusalem. This city was, apparently, a problem for many Europeans. Could religiously charged Jerusalem lend biblical connotations to the new Jewish State they might have wondered.
Then in 1967 everything changed. In fending off its attackers not only did Israel establish its military preeminence in the region but now all of Jerusalem, including the Temple Mount, and the biblical heartlands of Judea and Samaria had fallen to Jewish Sovereignty. This was too much. No Palestinian Arab State had been extinguished; Jordanian occupiers had simply been replaced by Israeli forces. Yet, the international community, seemingly previously untroubled by the Jordanian seizure of these areas, was clearly outraged by the Jewish presence there and from the UN the call immediately began for Israeli withdrawal.
Having said all that I do not subscribe to the religious aspects of this.
It is purely my sensibilities in relation to how I see world politics in relation to my beloved England.

“Typical of this imbecile-ridden government. What about OUR human rights?”
Sad but true,
Anne we do have rights unfortunately these come behind and after those of many others.
The rights of the indigenous white population who are over the age of fifty lag far behind those of other groups, I start with those whom I think are at the top of the pecking order and who have priority over us are:-
Muslims of all kinds and of all ages (in particular those who by their actions or words hate us all) homosexual men and women and for heavens something called transgender, all people of colour, of mixed race, legal and illegal immigrants and the relatives of legal and illegal immigrants, the Scott’s the Northern Irish the Welsh, the metrosexuals who make up the London elite, all senior Civil Servants, the whole of the BBC management, politicians in particular those in charge of our City and County Councils and all of those who were born after 1965.

David, as usual you have described the situation exactly as it is. Today, I feel sick reading and hearing about the promotion of the homosexual way of life, which must be presented to our precious schoolchildren for reasons of ‘equality’. I am planning to write to the Humanists and other rubbish, including OFSTED and the Government. The words I plan to use are blunt, explaining why it is disgraceful that children must tolerate deviants who practice buggery/sodomy. These perverts are certainly deviants as they use the rectum, which is for expelling bodily waste as a sexual vessel. Out of their mouths faecal matter flows, and they are an evil which should be removed from our sight. Any help in the composition of this letter will be appreciated and also email addresses to those who will receive the letter. I do not apologise for the vile things I have written, but I apologise to future generations for the horrors being thrust upon them.

I’d broadly support your list but would like you to reconsider whether you really think the Scots, Northern Irish or Welsh really get a better deal than those listed lower in your ranking??
The loyal men & women of Ulster have been appallingly treated by successive Governments, in my opinion.
However, it is a salutary lesson for us native Britons on how we’ll be handled over the next few years. Initial appeasement of those who hate us, later major concessions in response to violence and threats thereof and finally complete prostration & capitulation to our implacable enemies who will then control the Ulster a.k.a. UK state.
Well rehearsed plan for our genocide; it’s good to have had a dummy run.
Just for my future use, I am busy conjugating the verb “to caliphate”, in my role as advisor to the Tory Cabinet. I am stuck on the imperfect: “we were caliphating” just sounds plain rude. Any suggestions?
These perverts are certainly deviants as they use the rectum, which is for expelling bodily waste as a sexual vessel.
Amputate the offending member, Anne.

Hello Redneck, well spotted; I was wrong to have included the Northern Irish, in my opinion the Welsh do get preferential treatment as do the Scott’s in fact I should have put the Scott’s higher up the list probably included with the legal and illegal immigrants.
Good luck with your efforts in conjugating the verb “to caliphate”, I am not sure that I can help you.
Redneck – 21.34
The imperfect form of the verb “to caliphate” will only ever be of academic interest.
The only forms of this verb you will read are either, “They are caliphating” / “They have caliphated” or “We are being caliphated” / “We have been caliphated”, though in this last example you may feel like replacing “caliphated” with something more Anglo-Saxon.

To what extent is the British government complicit in its support for the Muslim Brotherhood? A woolly message of neutrality emanates from the Coalition. But neutrality is always neutral for or neutral against. So is the British government neutral for or against the Muslim Brothehood?
The suspected muslim Obama, presiding over what Dr. Paul Craig Roberts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Craig_Roberts} called an America which has suffered a coup d’etat, has no less than six American Islamist activist advisors with alleged ties to the Brotherhood.

We know that the British government has a love affair with Quatar’s money. In view of Quatar’s support for the Muslim Brotherhood, shouldn’t we be looking at ideological support for Quatar among our politicians and businessmen? And just how is British political circles playing footsy with islamic terrorist groups like the Nuslim Brotherhood translating into policies opposed to pressure by the electorate to reduce the influence of islamic ideology on British life?

I read with interest your post on pecking order and priorities which includes
“all people of colour, of mixed race”
While I applaud the thrust of the post and the list, I just wonder whether, given our long Commonwealth Heritage, the list should include the said phrase.
I happen to live in a quiet suburban street which includes a Tory Councillor and have one neighbour, the son of an Indian and a Liverpudlian mother, whose middle son is my own son’s best friend. My neighbour has made his way from childhood through British education as a British Citizen born here and moved reasonably successfully through British Commercial life. However he has perceived throughout that he is regarded as a second class citizen, although people do not call him a spade or paki anymore as they did when he was a teenager.

“Caliphornication” – I like it!
In some quiet time set aside for catching up with correspondence, I find my Gmail Inbox and Sent boxes paralysed, so I can’t refer to emails received.
The devil makes work for idle hands and before I know what I am doing I have opened up the English Defence League website, though looking nervously to right and left in case I am spotted by unfriendly eyes.
But what is this?
Below the reference to the upcoming march through Tower Hamlets, still apparently a constitutional right of Her Majesty’s subjects though hedged around by the guardians of our liberties, the Metropolitan Police, what is this I see?
An article but a click away refers the cautious reader to an article by one of the Great Beasts of the Conservative Party, albeit one rather too well known for having ideas of his own for many tastes and of course a waacist and faahschist for any of the big-government authoritarians to the left of the Monday Club:
http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/08/19/lord-tebbit-edl-far-right_n_3778337.html
Yes folks, Lord Tebbit, no less, finds no evidence that the EDL is far right. Lord Tebbit is perhaps a bit tardy in his comments, but as implied in earlier posts, but that is the privilege of the Big Beasts; we stand with the good guys.
This will now give the green light to some of those who wait upon orders from their superiors before coming out with bold comments suggesting a mind forming its opinions by reference to the facts rather than uninformed or malicious prejudice…
An opportunity for conservatives to protest peacefully, left-wing islamo fascists permitting: 7th September.
The left-wing authoritarian web-sheet, Searchlight, notes the expected call to suppress the right of assembly:
“Leader of the Labour Group, Cllr Sirajul Islam [sic], said: “The EDL threat to march is a clear attempt a [sic] fuel hatred and division. Politicians of all sides are united in their condemnation of the EDL march and have urged the Home Secretary and police to step in and stop the march taking place.” “
Has the Archbishop of Canterbury yet denounced the persecution of Coptic Christians in Cairo these last few days and, in particular, the abuse of nuns and the parading of them through the streets as “prisoners of war” in what is a much wider disaster?
http://frontpagemag.com/2013/noah-beck/christians-on-the-front-lines-of-muslim-violence/
Of course this is probably a matter of indifference to we agnostics and atheists with our etiolated moral sense whose Graeco-Judaeo-Christian roots have largely dried up, inhibiting action.
Now Malfleur-you are being mischievous.
What he actually said was:
“..calling the group “right-wing” is an attempt to smear mainstream conservatives.”
And
“It is no good telling me that they are nasty. Pol Pot, Stalin, Kim, Castro and Mao were nasty, but they were not ‘right wing’.”
Reading the words lead to different conclusions than the EDL would be wishing.
Malfleur, I am not sure that the Archbishop of Canterbury has yet denounced the persecution of Christians in Egypt, but on 11 July he did sent a letter to the head of the Coptic Orthodox Church and the Anglican Bishop of Egypt expressing solidarity. Things have of course become much more desperate since then.
Just today I received an email from an Egyptian Christian desperate to leave and find work in another country.
By the way, there is a poll in the article on Lord Tebbit in Huffington linked above which, at the time I visited, ran:

Peter from Maidstone
Why is our government not offering refuge to what must be a modest number Christians who would be sympathetic to our culture, rather than conspiring to let in hundreds of thousands of muslims whose ideology is fundamentally antithetical, no – hostile, to our way of life?
When is someone going to hold the three political parties to account on this score?
Of course the horrendous answer to my question may be that immigration policy is deliberately designed to divide and ruin our country, in the same way as the proposed legislation in the USA would allow in millions of immigrants from South America to a country already suffering from ruinous unemployment and would legalise millions of illegal aliens so as to change irrevocably the cultural identity of the USA, set indigenous workers against their foreign competitors, and create, a la Neathergate, a permanent electorate committed to the Democrats and to big government and its welfare amenities.
I am very conscious that we need to find a way of avoiding the trap set for us of permanent low level civil war. On the muslim question, in the article from Front Page magazine which I linked above the author holds this night-light to illuminate a possible path:
“Despite the grim signs for the West, it’s worth noting that there is a tiny but brave reform movement within Islam that should be robustly supported. Courageous humanists like Irshad Manji, who questions received doctrines with critical-thinking and a preference for tolerance over conquest, are the best hope for a reformed Islam that builds on its virtues, fixes its problems, and is at peace with itself (regarding the Sunni-Shia divide) and the non-Muslim world. Of course, anyone who reads Crucified Again will be unsurprised that Irshad Manji lives in the West.”
On the other a bleaker assessment which my current reading and listening is forcing me to consider is that, in the USA for example, Obamacare was expressly designed to fail so as to bring on a crisis in which the government would offer itself as the rescuer of last resort. This would be coupled with a false flag event in the USA which would be the pretext for a draconian extension of government powers.
Perhaps these thoughts will all go away or fellow Wallsters can demonstrate that they are nonsensical and baseless…
Does anyone have any good, but perhaps little-known English recipes using ingredients widely obtainable in most parts of the world?
Malfleur, it seems to be very difficult for Egyptian and Syrian Christians to immigrate to the UK. There is no distinction made, naturally, between those whose cultures are close to our own, and those whose are alien. I would say that wealthy Christians have tended to be able to leave. It is the relatively poor, such as the man who contacted me this morning, who face grave obstacles. It must be remembered that there are perhaps 10 million Christians in Egypt. Most of whom love Egypt as much as we love England (and Wales, and Scotland, and Ireland). They want assistance to play a full part in Egypt as Egyptians rather than to leave.
If a special case was made for my correspondent, then why not for 100,000 others? That is a question, not a negative statement. It would, in any case, require the state to recognise that there is something commendable about our Christian heritage in the UK, and that those migrants sympathetic to it should be preferred over those who hate it and wish to destroy it, and us.
Peter
Yes, my point was that those sympathetic to our society should be substituted for those whose basic ideology, the Koran and ancillary texts, is hostile. I would rather have 100,000 Coptic Christians than 100,000 muslims, if that were the choice.
Attacks on Christians in Egypt – more
August 18th
““Over the past weeks we have witnessed an increasing trend of anti-Christian rhetoric calling for ‘the attack upon and eradication of Christians and churches’ in Egypt,” said Coptic Bishop Anba in the United Kingdom. “The result of such incitement, at least in part, has been the unprecedented attack on fifty two churches and numerous Christian homes and businesses across eight governorates in Egypt, within the space of twenty four hours.” ”
http://www.aina.org/news/20130818125428.htmt/
Malfleur, I would also. But we are not given the choice, and indeed it seems the choice has already been made the other way. It is also the case that those who do want to emigrate are not always the most committed to their faith or their country. And those I know well are all ordinary businessmen such as we all know here who want to succeed in Egypt, and want Egypt to succeed.
What might be of use would be some organisation to facilitate the purchase of goods made by Egyptian (Christian?) businesses. The Muslim Brotherhood provide all manner of practical support to the poor Muslim Egyptians and thereby gain their support. There are not so many who care about the minority populations who want to work their way out of their difficulties.
Malfleur, the attacks on Christians have been well planned. I still haven’t heard anything from Hague or Cameron. They are playing the game as if there were two equal parties in Egypt, instead of a mass revolt against Islamic totalitarianism. Sermons have been preached in Egypt since the first revolution calling for violence against Christians, and some Muslim leaders have called for all Christians (the original population) to be driven from Egypt.
This is our future if we do not act now in our own homeland.

It would be good to have a handle on the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood in the EU and in our own UK institutions. There is leverage if the Wiesenthal centre denounces the MB, it can hardly be accused of being a far-right organisation.
Peter
They are complicit.
And the other Christian churches seem largely stumm.
Malfleur, I think that the Catholics are fairly up to speed. Pope Francis has spoken out several times about the situation, and Coptic Catholic Christians are also facing violence. I was invited to Westminster Cathedral a little while ago for a service of prayer for the Christians of Syria. I’d have expected more from the Anglicans and something at least from the Evangelicals.
Here is the recent press release issued by Pope Tawadros of the Coptic Orthodox Church, I think you can see how it expresses the sense of patriotism and national identity..
The Coptic orthodox church of Egypt is following closely the unfortunate incidences occurring in our nation Egypt and confirms its strong stance with the Egyptian law enforcement, the armed forces, and all of the institutions of the Egyptian people in its confrontation of the violent armed organizations, dark terrorists, both internal and external, the attacks on the government offices as well as our peaceful churches which are terrorizing our citizens both Coptic and Muslim.
These actions stand against all religions, morality, and humanity. We commend the stance of the friendly and loyal countries who understand the nature of these turns of events and we strongly denounce the erroneous reporting that is being broadcasted in the western media. We invite them to review the actual events subjectively instead of legitimizing these bloody terrorist organizations and all its affiliations with international support and political protection while they are attempting to spread devastation and destruction in our dear nation. We only request that the international and western media please report an valid account of the events with accuracy, truth, and honesty.
We send our condolences for all the victims and martyrs of duty that gave their lives, and we pray for the recovery of all the injured and afflicted. We persevere in our strong national unity and repulse any attempts to polarize our nation into a secular conflict. We absolutely reject any complete or even partial foreign interference in the internal national affairs of Egypt and as the hands of evil are extended to burn, kill and destroy; but the hands of God are nearer to protect, strengthen, and build. We have full confidence in the divine intervention that will navigate the Egyptian people in the delicate time of our history to a better tomorrow and a brighter future that will be filled with justice, peace, and democracy that the people of the Nile Valley deserve.
Long live Egypt, free and proud.
Actually can you imagine any Archbishop of Canterbury issuing a statement that ended…
Long live England! Free and proud!
That is surely part of our problem.

I thought he was head of the Worldwide Anglican Communion.
Patriccia. What does that mean? He is not head at all of anyone. That is much of his problem. He is only the Archbishop of Canterbury. The rest is without any authority at all.
He is the spiritual head of the whole communion.
For a while I communed with the Episcopalian Bishop of the Gulf and observed the reverence in which he held the then incumbent George Carey. The congregation looked to Carey for guidance and leadership.
Well he’s not really. The Africans were considering having their own communion because the AoC is too liberal, and the Americans and others considered having their own because the AoC is not liberal enough. But that is beside the point. He has no authority at all outside his own See, and not much there either. He is the AoC and therefore one would hope he could speak as Pope Tawadros did of his own country.
Tawadros has a dwindling congregation frightened to go out. He needs to read up on Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
Don’t start being offensive. The Copts are not dwindling, far from it. Nor are they afraid. Do not start trolling or I will treat you as a troll.

I fear you misunderstand. I have close liason with a Copt from Cairo who for years has lived roughly 6 months here and 6 months in Cairo.
Since the Arab Spring, she along with many of her well to do friends, have not returned fearing what standing up and being counted might entail.
She bemoans her own lack of courage and she tells me that those confessing Christ in Cairo are getting fewer.
This is a very sad fact and does parallel what happened in Soviet Russia as well as fascist Germany.
I regret the reference to my erstwhile hero(and incidentally Justin Welby’s).

Malfleur, your Tebbit link to the EDL only shows it’s near impossible to win an argument with the left-leaning club if one accepts their terms of engagement. Take capital punishment. Anyone arguing for its re-instatement is classed today as deeply right wing. So, was the Labour party, every other party before we scrapped the thing in the 60s last century ‘right wing’?
The only distinction Baron ever makes is between individuals, creeds that see others as they truly are with all the imperfections that the mutations of the human gene can throw up, who offer societal arrangements, policies, actions that take into account the good and the bad of the richness of the human race, and, the opposite, the individuals, creeds that see others as they would like them to be, who promote ideas, policies aimed not at managing what we have, but at engineering the ‘human stock’ into some monochromatic heard where nothing but love reigns, and evil is absent.
It wouldn’t be bad if the ‘soul engineers’ were just going around persuading everyone to be as they wanted them to be, what’s bad is that they have gained the upper hand, have begun enacting statutes to get us all moulded into their image.
What they are missing is that one cannot legislate for love. If it were doable, in the humanity’s 300000 years or so of existence, someone somewhere would have done it, turned us all into mother Teresas.
The only outcome of the legislative manipulation, often well intended but inimical to the human character, will be a conflict between reality and the make believe world of the manipulators, a conflict not dissimilar to that which imploded the soul engineering experiment of the communist dreamers of the East.

On the other hand, they might have dropped out like some of their friends and gone to work in merchant banking in London, only to find themselves out on their collective ears in 2008. Or they could have gained a Master’s degree in microbiology and then taken a job in PR.

Best of luck to your sons. Successful and happy careers.
This story or something like it is circulating in Canada. Obviously it’s a spoof, but wouldn’t it be great if it were true? –
“A Canadian female libertarian wrote a lot of letters to the Canadian government, complaining about the treatment of captive insurgents (terrorists) being held in Afghanistan National Correctional System facilities and kept demanding a response. Eventually she received one –
National Defence Headquarters,
Ottawa,
Canada.
Dear Concerned Citizen,
Thank you for your recent letters expressing your profound concerns about the treatment of Taliban and Al Qaeda terrorists who have been captured by Canadian Forces, and who have subsequently been transferred to the Afghanistan Government and are currently being held by Afghan officials in Afghanistan National Correctional System facilities.
Our administration takes these matters seriously. You will be pleased to learn, thanks to the concerns of citizens like yourself, that we are creating a new branch here at the Department of National Defence, to be called ‘Liberals Accept Responsibility for Killers’ program, or L.A.R.K. for short.
In accordance with the guidelines of this new program, we have decided, on a trial basis, to divert several terrorists and place them in the homes of concerned citizens such as yourself, around the country, under those citizens’ personal care. Your personal detainee has been selected and is scheduled for transportation under heavily armed guard to your residence in Toronto next Monday.
Your detainee is Ali Mohammed Ahmed bin Mahmud. He is to be cared for pursuant to the standards you personally demanded in your letter of complaint. You will be pleased to know that we will conduct weekly inspections to ensure that your standards of care for Ahmed are commensurate with your recommendations.
Although Ahmed is a sociopath and extremely violent, we hope that your sensitivity to what you described as his ‘attitudinal problem’ will help him overcome those character flaws. Perhaps you are correct in describing these problems as mere cultural differences. We understand that you plan to offer counselling and home schooling, however, we strongly recommend that you hire some assistant caretakers.
Please advise any Jewish friends, neighbours or relatives that Ahmed is your house guest, as encounters with them might make him agitated or even violent, but we are sure you can reason with him. He is also expert at making a wide variety of explosive devices from common household products, so you may wish to keep those items locked up, unless in your opinion, this might offend him. Your adopted terrorist is extremely proficient in hand-to-hand combat and can extinguish human life with such simple items as a pencil or nail clippers. We advise that you do not ask him to demonstrate these skills either in your home or wherever you choose to take him while helping him adjust to life in our country.
Ahmed will not wish to interact with you or your daughters except sexually, since he views females as a form of property, thereby having no rights, including refusal of his sexual demands. This is a particularly sensitive subject for him.
You also should know that he has shown violent tendencies around women who fail to comply with the dress code that he will recommend as more appropriate attire. I feel sure you will come to enjoy the anonymity offered by the burka over time. Just remember that it is all part of ‘respecting his culture and religious beliefs’ as described in your letter.
Please take good care of Ahmed and remember that we will try to have a counsellor available to help you over any difficulties you encounter while Ahmed is adjusting to Canadian culture.
Thank you again for your concern. We always appreciate receiving imaginative suggestions – and especially co-operation – from people of good such as yourself so that together we can implement improved ways to move our country forward.
Good luck and God bless you.

The US will not intervene in the Syria conflict because it does not believe anti-Assad rebels would support American interests, its highest ranking military officer wrote in a letter to a congressman.”
So, by the same token, the military intervention in Egypt will never be described as a ‘Coup’?

Curious that the coup was not called a coup because to do so would require by law that Obam cut military aid to Egypt, but the Obama administration has now secretly cut aid to Egypt.
The Obama administration’s foreign policy is in disarray or in fact on course?

We-ell, since the only potential government in Egypt whose interests might coincide with the US is the Military, that is where their aid will go. And if they cut its aid “secretly”, who’s to know whether such cut was significant, or simply one round less in each ammunition box? They seem already to have ample M1 Abrams tanks and other ex-yank stuff on the streets; the supplies they need are only for maintenance.

“Now just what you Limeys doing letting Miranda go free?”
Might it perhaps be that Mr. Miranda had committed no offence? I realize that this, by itself, is no longer sufficient reason for the “security forces” in your hi-jacked republic to leave a man to his liberty and there are circumstances in England which suggest that your suborned polity in which the three separate powers have collapsed into one stinking pile of executive will might have extended its reach from time to time t influence our own authorities. Not, it would appear, in this case however.
Put more subtly: let us take the argument which has been adduced that Mr. Miranda was carrying property of your contemptible government by, with and for state and corporate interests screened behind a mildly socialist ideology. That information was collected by the National Security Agency in wholesale breach of the United States Constitution. The information itself belongs and was seized from where all power lies in the USA under that constitution, the people. As the NSA has acted in breach of the will of the people as expressed in the US constitution and by criminal acts and conspiracies has itself stolen that information from the people because it was obtained unlawfully in breach, inter alia, of the Fourth Amendment of the US constitution, Mr. Miranda, had he been carrying any of that information in his computer or other paraphernalia, was not in possession of any property to which the criminal NSA could properly lay claim to and setting aside the question of whether Mr. Miranda had breached any ENGLISH law, was let go free because neither had he breached any law of the USA .

“Hundreds of Coptic Christians took to downtown Nashville, Tenn., streets this week to protest the ongoing and escalating violence their faith is facing in Egypt.
Among their chants: “Obama, Obama don’t you care? Christian blood is everywhere,” The Tennessean reported. The demonstrators, waving Egyptian flags, also called for Americans to “pray for Egypt.” And signs abounded, with messages such as: “We are against Muslim Brotherhood.” ”

The Terrorism Act 2000 does seem to be couched in such broad terms that a Border Officer may stop and question anyone, requiring that they allow all their possessions to be inspected, not on the basis of suspicion that they are involved in any way in the commission or planning of terrorist offences, but simply to determine if they might be someone who could be detained on that basis.
It would seem to me that the detention of Miranda was entirely lawful, in the way that many actions of totalitarian states are lawful. There is no requirement for a Border Officer to have any suspicion or prior intelligence. Indeed the law is framed so that each one of us could be legally detained for 9 hours at the border to check that we are not involved in terrorism.
Each of us is therefore labelled as a potential terrorist supporter. Such is the law which we allowed Labour to pass.
Malfleur, do you know what do taking of shoes at airports and the wholesale surveillance of calls, e-mails have in common?
Both are the result of our inability to target only those most likely to cause harm. The laws we’ve enacted do not allow to do what the Israelis do – abit of profiling here, abit of homing there. The Full Monty monitoring isn’t helpful, how many staff would have to be hired to go through it all, but the lawyers told the spooks, you better cover your arse, monitor all, for if you only target a group or two, you’ll be breaking the most sacred laws we’ve ever lived under. If the Full Monty monitoring ever leaks you can always say ‘national security demands it, every group, race targeted equally’. And that’s exactly what the spooks have said, and are getting away with it.
you recall the punishment of someone fed up with airport personnel, who said, as a joke, ‘he’ll come over and kick the arse of those responsible’ ?
Well, here’s a punishment for someone actually saying it’s OK to ‘eliminate’ someone. Any wonder we cannot win.

On the other site there is a writing competition which has been announced in a blog post. Looking at the rules it seems that anyone over 35 is excluded. I am wondering what the legal position is for such an exclusion? There seems to be no justification as older people can also write coherently, and it is not a competition for students under 24 years, for instance, nor for children under 16 years. The Spectator seems to have arbitrarily set an age criteria which cannot be justified.

Al-Gebali referred to “documents and proofs” which Egypt’s intelligence agencies possess and how “the time for them to come out into the open has come.” In the course of her discussion on how these documents record massive financial exchanges between international bodies and the Muslim Brotherhood, she said: “Obama’s brother is one of the architects of investment for the international organization of the Muslim Brotherhood.” ”

There’s a massive double standard the way the BBC and Guardian are up in arms over Miranda’s 9 hour questioning session over what at least looks like a suspicious errand, and their cheerleading for the fuzz at the very many 5 a.m knocks on the door for many more NOTW journalists.
Or, for that matter, Tommy Robinson’s regular incarcerations for walking the Queen’s Highway at the behest of militant !$lam and it’s facilitators.
I wish ignorant sub-editors would stop dubbing people who have had their bits chopped about as “trans sexuals”. No matter how many breast implants a man has and what he gets chopped off, his DNA remains male. And women who have their breasts chopped off and various bits inserted and/or sewn on to their nether regions will remain females for the rest of their lives.
No matter how much these people want the world to perceive them as actually being the opposite sex, they cannot change their DNA. Having their bits chopped off and silicone implants inserted, growing their hair long and wearing make-up does not make them “she”. The same goes for women who get their breasts chopped off and pretend male organs sewn on. Their DNA remains female.
The media should stop referring to these people as being of the opposite sex. Their DNA cannot be altered and these individuals remain the sex they were born, and it is not the business of the media to support their impossible fantasies by referring to them by their fantasy gender.
It is ignorant and irritating.

And when the constitution proves inadequate I understand you have ways of changing it, by way of what I understand are called -er – what was that word again? – er – oh yes, AMENDMENTS. The other day it occurred to me that I’d like to see a book by some rational and suitably gifted author entitled “The Dark side of Liberalism”.
The theme would be that the desire to effect change is very closely related to the urge to destroy, and that Liberalism, which in the 19th century was largely a desire to effect beneficial change, is now mostly a desire to simply destroy – without regard for, or even in order to bring about, evil consequences.
The book would address the impulse of Liberal/leftist elements in western society towards civilisational suicide both by submitting to the medieval and retrogressive demands of Islam and by jettisoning civilised values and common sense in general. Perhaps this could be the basis for the book’s opening chapter –

I agree entirely; part of a multi-stem attempt to crush Western Civilisation (also see Malfleur’s post 21st).
This is the propaganda component: whites are innately evil, deserve no sympathy and can be crushed at will. Whereas, selected minorities are eternal victims who must be lauded at all times and can never be guilty of racism because the whites deserved it.
I can vaguely understand why some minority citizens might believe this cant: they’ve been force-fed this “victim mentality” since birth. What I don’t get is why so many whites are duped by it and, even worse, are complicit in its perpetration?
This duplicitous approach to violence between the majority & ethnic groups is probably more prevalent in the US. However, for me the contrast in a simple UK comparison is even more stark.
I would urge anyone who has never done so to read some of the accounts of the heinous murder of Kriss Donald and mentally compare it to the equally tragic death of Stephen Lawrence. It will either make you weep or, in my case, driven to rage.

Methinks the Al Qaeda propaganda macine is at work.
Hear Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Aleksandr Lukashevich:-
“It draws attention to the fact that biased regional media have immediately, as if on command, begun an aggressive information attack, laying all the responsibility on the government,” Lukashevich said in a statement on Wednesday.
The Russian Foreign Ministry, citing its sources, said that a homemade rocket carrying unidentified chemical substances had been launched from an area controlled by the opposition.
“A homemade rocket with a poisonous substance that has not been identified yet – one similar to the rocket used by terrorists on March 19 in Khan al-Assal – was fired early on August 21 [at Damascus suburbs] from a position occupied by the insurgents,” Lukashevich said.
Earlier on Wednesday, conflicting reports emerged of recent chemical weapons use in Syria. This comes on the same day that the UN inspectors arrive in Damascus to investigate allegations of use of toxic arms. The casualty figures range from dozens to almost 1,300 deaths.
The Russian diplomat stated that it seems as though it was “a provocation planned in advance.” The “criminal action” near Damascus coincided with the beginning of UN experts’ work in Syria – which speaks in favor of such a conclusion.
A handout image released by the Syrian opposition’s Shaam News Network shows bodies of children wrapped in shrouds laid out on the ground as Syrian rebels claim they were killed in a toxic gas attack by pro-government forces in eastern Ghouta, on the outskirts of Damascus on August 21, 2013.(AFP Photo / Daya Al-Deen)
Lukashevich pointed out that similar reports about Syrian authorities allegedly using chemical weapons have popped up before. However, the information has never been confirmed.
In Moscow’s view, the latest possible “provocation” might be the opposition’s attempt to get support from the UN Security Council and undermine the Geneva peace talks on Syria.
Not that I am a fan of Putin but anyone who hates Obama however has some credibility.

I’ve spent most of my working life as a low level functionary and I can tell you that in the UK it is very common for folk like me to access to huge amounts of highly classified material. There is so much of it out there it simply isn’t practical for stuff to be restricted to about 12 people. Need to know does operate and it operates very well but we simply can’t avoid low level grunts like Manning or myself being in key slots where they have access to gigantic amounts of data, especially in our digital world.
The US is the same as the UK and others (including the East). in their approach to handling and managing intelligence. It is generally tedious and unglamorous work. The guys at the top are incapable of working for any length of time in such positions and they are certainly not the route to fame and power. It is left to the peasants at the bottom – vetted, cleared, monitored, but peasants nonetheless!
Snowden’s case seems a little more problematical. As you say he’s a contractor and it seems very strange that he did not have a ‘minder’ an ‘intelligent customer’ or somesuch assigned as a right hand man.
My concern is not Snowden but the NSA’s access to and possible use of “intelligence” which it obtains or is able to obtain on everyone in the USA – and elsewhere.
Do we really believe that such information will not be used to control American politicians, corporate executives, military men, journalists and others for political ends. We should have learned from he case of the transvestite head of the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover, the value of such files and should be extremely alarmed at the implications of the NSA’s operations, especially in view of the nature of the gang presently occupying the White House – if the information is going to them….
We now have J. Edgar in spades.

Two women were shot in a London street today. You have to be a code-breaker to read the news here: ” Detectives from Trident, the Met Police’s gang crime investigation unit, are at the scene in Kilburn High Road”. Reason: It’s npt politically correct you know to mention Black on Black crime, so the code work is Trident!

“Syrian terrorists gas ordinary people to death (accidentally or not) and Hague reconsiders arming them while Obama considers missile strikes against Assad.”
Barack Obama is guilty of lighting this particular fuse; about a year ago when he stupidly said that if Bashar Hafez al-Assad were to use chemical weapons he would be crossing a red line, Al-Qaeda must have thought ‘Yippee’ we can bring the west in to this war anytime we want just by killing a couple of dozen innocents or pretending to.
Just as an aside, as the Brits are always interested in weather, yesterday, Saturday, I sat on our common lawn with a couple of neighbours having our regular end-of-the-day cocktail and it was so grey and cold that we only stayed for one drink instead of the nomal two and hied it back inside. August in sunny Mexico!
This might bring a smile.
A young family moved into a house next door to an empty plot. One day, a gang of building workers turned up to start building on the plot. The young family’s 5-year-old daughter naturally took an interest in all the activity going on next door and started talking with the workers. She hung around and eventually the builders, all with hearts of gold, more or less adopted the little girl as a sort of project mascot. They chatted with her, let her sit with them while they had tea and lunch breaks, and gave her little jobs to do here and there to make her feel important. They even gave the child her very own hard hat and gloves, which thrilled her immensely. At the end of the first week, the smiling builders presented her with a pay envelope – containing two pounds in 10p coins. The little girl took Her ‘pay’ home to her mother who suggested that they take the money to the bank the next day to open a savings account. At the bank, the female cashier was tickled pink listening to the little girl telling her about her ‘work’ on the building site and the fact she had a ‘pay packet’. ‘You must have worked very hard to earn all this’, said the cashier. The little girl proudly replied, ‘Yes, I worked every day with Steve and Wayne and Mike. We’re building a big house. ”My goodness gracious,’ said the cashier, ‘And will you be working on the house again next week? ‘The child thought for a moment. Then she said seriously: ‘I think so.
Provided those wankers at Jewsons deliver the f**king bricks on time.’
David O – a rare, laugh-out-loud post! Thank you so much! It is being duly forwarded around the world.
Secret Base? What secret base? It’s been on Wikipedia for years. The Independent reported [on Friday] Britain is operating an electronic intercepts base for all `traffic` in the Middle East:(and we might say at least they have something right as New Labour was going to close up shop). The Independent does not name the site, although terrorist can hardly not know.It maybe this information Miranda was suspected as carrying from Snowdon. It it is obvious where it would be and a quick search for`British Sovereign Bases Cyprus`yealds results. The CIA gives the most succinct official information.Beyond that it’s in Wikipedea under Akrotiri-and-Dhekelia.The latter is near Larnica;it has an outpost at Ayios Nikolaos near Famagusta in Turkish territory. This is”a GCHQ electronic intelligence listerning station of the UKUSA intelligence network.” This system is called ECHELON [which see].It is a joint project of the UK/USA/Aust./NZ and Canada. It is from here that intelligence is being collected from around the Middle East (and why not?).It is hardly a secret. The entire business has only come to public attention by Miranda being detained under highly dubious circumstances.
I point-out `secrecy` would have had the The British Sovereign Bases closed down under Labour with-out any informed public consent.
Re this judge telling this islamic bint to remove her burqa, there is a lot of sensible support for the judge over at The Mail, but there are letter-writers writing in, pointlessly, that the burqa isn’t even required in islam. So what?
The real point is that even were the burqa required by their allah dealie, it is stilll against the law to hide your face in public in Britain. The notion of being allowed to hide your identity in a British court of law is so outrageous, it’s laughable.
Well done that sane, sensible, reasonable judge!

Without being impolite, it is hard not to regard these people as disgusting, filthy, scum savages.
I sincerely hope that none of our elite leaders, and those behind the mass infiltration of our historically stable society by these aliens, never have to suffer the horror of their daughter(s) being groomed, raped and sodomised by these vermin.
How on earth do they sleep at night, knowing full well, they have infested the UK with the scum of the earth and satan’s storm troopers. What do they perceive to be the logical outcome of this malignancy?

Has anyone seem any evidence yet that the Syrian government was responsible for the nerve gas attacks on children in Damascus?
I just had a drink with the landlord on the lawn of the grounds of the property where I live, and he was drinking a mitchelada. What, you may ask, the hell is a mitchelada. Well, it is beer and V-8 juice (half and half) and apparently very popular. The tenants have drinks around the table on most evenings, and he always has two micheladas and he says it’s a popular drink in Mexico. I had never heard of it before. Has anyone else? He seems to think it’s normal.

“…According to debkafile’s sources, Western demands for proof of the Assad regime’s use of chemical weapons before taking action have been countered in the last few hours by the discovery that the forensic evidence will be all but impossible to obtain in view of the special mixture contained in the gas shells. Only tiny quantities of sarin were blended in with a large quantity of riot control agents, a formula developed by Iran to camouflage the use of chemical weapons.”

Roger Scruton was good again on ‘A Point of View’ this morning. Followed immediately by a vomiting of left wing twaddle from ‘BH’, quoting specifically the ‘Grauniad’, ‘Daily Mirror’ & ‘New Statesman’. Never was bias so blatant.

The Blogosphere is awash with truth, rumour, lies, propaganda and various permutations of those four elements of the background noise. Alexander Boot’s recent post on Cranmer”s blog illustrates this perfectly:
http://archbishop-cranmer.blogspot.fr/2013/08/violence-in-sweden-echoes-in-britain.html
It is worth taking note of the comment by ‘Godric’ @ 22 AUGUST 2013 09:05, which provides some perspective to the post itself – and to the comments prior to his own. It illustrates how plausible edifices of reason can be constructed on false reportage. And of course Godric’s post itself could be yet another such construction.
What remains fairly evident though, from the entirety of the reported/misreported events, is that ‘oil and water do not easily mix’.

Verity it is all subjective. What is cheap to one person is expensive for another. Personally I think the rents here are insane. all pushed up by foreigners buying up property for rental purpses. and greedy British landlords who have jumped on the band wagon. Why you want to come back to what you call ‘home’ is your affair. I strongly advise you to visit the UK before you burn your bridges, You may sadly find the reality bears no resemblance to your memories. Memory mixed with nostalgia is a dangerous brew! Town/city Average monthly rent
Selkirkshire £299
Lincolnshire £459
Stirlingshire £473
Staffordshire £476
Cleveland £476

Rents are high cos costs are high. I manage a propery for a relative. I have to find ground rent, service charge & landownerrs fees paid out of the rental income. If you consider the return I could get on the value of the house if invested elsewhere the rent is cheap. How people who borrow to buy to let manage I have no idea.
The problem is the high price of property here. There is too much demand, and that is caused by immigration.
Thanks to all who responded so quickly!
David Ossitt – Thank you. My family is Scottish and they have been looking out for me, but the rents still seem rather high. But I want to be home with my own people. The expat lifestyle here is dominated by the Americans. That is no bad thing. They are good at coming up with ideas and they are great organisers, and they are, by and large, friendly. But it is not home.
About a two-minute taxi ride from me (across busy roads and up a steep hill, hence the taxi and not shanks pony) there is a new clinic owned and run by women doctors. They are speak fluent English, and they make house calls. They give you their card with their cellphone numbers in case you have an emergency after hours.
I was getting a perm the other day and the receptionist in the salon looked Indian to me. So I asked her and yes, her mother was Indian (from India) and I was thrilled, as I used to live in India. But mostly, it’s Americans and Canadians (and the owners of the country, of course.) But it’s not home.
David O – From the list you kindly provided, the only place I could afford to rent would be Selkirkshire!

Hacked Emails Reveal ‘Washington-Approved’ Plan to Stage Chemical Weapons Attack in Syria

It looks as though the UK Government is determined to attack Syria. Does anyone know of any protest being planned yet to demonstrate against this action?
Syria: I would believe what ever Medecins Sans Frontieres say about this. Could a Syrian Army bombardment have hit a rebel cache of poison gas ? What ever; there is no side in Syria that can be supported:the same as in the Spanish Civil War[as Orwell discovered].Perhaps the best to be hoped for is the Syrian Army to control most of the territory. For the poison gas attack; SEE http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-23788674
David O – thanks for the helpful suggestion! I will email my cousin.
” Arguably the most damaging disclosure so far came Wednesday when the Office of the Director of National Intelligence declassified and released three documents, including an 86-page ruling from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, which was created as one of the reforms of the 1970s.
The ruling revealed for the first time that the NSA had improperly collected the emails of tens of thousands of Americans between 2008 and 2011 while it was siphoning foreigners’ data from Internet nodes based in the United States.
In the opinion, U.S. District Court Judge John Bates rebuked the NSA for repeatedly misleading the surveillance court. He ordered the collection program shut down until it could be fixed, and the American emails expunged. The documents also showed that the NSA had exceeded its authority when searching databases of U.S. phone records and email “to and from” fields.”
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2013/08/25/200325/nsa-having-flashbacks-to-watergate.html#.UhqVNFODpVs#storylink=cpy
Is the abuse of power by the NSA (and presumably by GCHQ) REALLY not a matter for whistleblowers to address?
“One U.S. official, for example, told reporters on a conference call that about 56,000 communications of Americans were inadvertently intercepted each year before Bates shuttered the program. The official called that a “relatively small number.”
(Ibid)
Assuming this figure is not under-stated,what if they were all communications with politicians or military yielding personal information which could be used to influence those persons subsequent decisions?

Hello good people. I want to recommend Martin Van Creveld’s books to anyone who is interested in the middle east situation from a military perspective. This book describes Maneuver warfare as done by the Nazis and Soviets then it describes its use by Israel against the Arabs in the 60s and 70s. Wondering if these ideas are going to be relevant again with all this Syria/Egypt trouble going on.
http://aupress.maxwell.af.mil/digital/pdf/book/vanCreveld_Airpower_Maneuver_Warfare.pdf
Recently I found about this diary written by a Hessian during the American Revolution: http://www.jaegerkorps.org/reference/Ewalds%20DIARY%20OF%20THE%20AMERICAN%20WAR.pdf
John Ewald. Quite an amazing man, brave and decent. Not English but we were lucky to have him on our side. Even the story of how the diary was found and brought to America was interesting in its own right.
If a big war comes in the middle east and we have to get involved then we don’t seem to be able to afford to get involved in it. Obviously we’re going to side with Israel over the Arabs ( I hope?) so the way we can support them is by being smarter in battle? I guess it’s not arab brains that are the problem, but their belief in the afterlife is going to make them very fierce opponents.
dg@August 26th, 2013 – 07:04
If a big war starts in the mid east I hope we will have the sense to stay well out of it.
DG, it appears that Hague hopes to start it. I will protest his actions.
Wasn’t Hague quoted as saying this conflict could last 20-30 years? In a way, I wish he wouldn’t hold back on what he knows. He ought to tell us the truth so we can be prepared. Sun Tzu said all warfare is based on deception. But our Islamic opponents already believe that we are coming for them. What good is a war lie when the only ones who believe the lie are your own side? I don’t want to see a war, it will make our country an even worse place to live, perhaps even a hellish place. But it seems inevitable. It’s all in the Bible, Revelations and all
If there must be a war, I think the civilised West have a good basis for declaring war on Britain and rescuing the remains of the native English from the grasp of the islamics. English girls are groomed and raped, sold and treated as meat by the occupiers, and nothing is done. The relations of the abusers sit in judgement over us as city councillors and MPs. They even sit in the House of Lords mocking our ancient traditions. If there must be war, let the West come to our rescue, because here resistance is not encouraged, indeed it is forbidden. A war equal to the main world wars will be needed soon as the barbarian influence rapidly takes over this once green and pleasant land. Mocking Blakes’ immortal words, teh conquerer cries, “We shall build Islam in England’s crushed and enslaved land”

“If there must be a war, I think the civilised West have a good basis for declaring war on Britain and rescuing the remains of the native English from the grasp of the islamics. ”
Heh, heh heh! ‘The West’ had been moribund for several decades, Anne (as our generation understood the phrase to mean, anyway). It was pronounced ‘terminal’ when Heath sold us out to the emerging EUSSR. It died when Obama was elected as POTUS. Its remains are maggot ridden with self-serving ‘internationalist’ ideologues and spivs from the extreme end of the ‘unacceptable face of capitalism’ (which, if my memory serves, is a slogan that was coined, ironically, by the aforementioned traitor, Heath).
The beloved country, into which you and I were born, exists only in our memories and dreams. Hunker down and at least enjoy those reveries. What we had (warts and all) is irretrievable. Personally, I have found a haven where at least some of the old traditions are still both practised and visible; but already the minarets and first signs of islamic creep are filtering into the familiar landscape (already defaced by the hellish wind-machines – more often ‘no-wind’ machines – placed by farmers greedy for the subsidies extracted from long suffering taxpayers, rather than sowing crops and producing home-grown food).
You and I are lucky; at least we have our memories; tangible first-hand and unpolluted evidence that we were once a great country, memories of the compatriots who fought to retain it, many who died heroically in the attempt. And a few who still survive to tell the tale, but whose narrative falls on the ears of the young, rendered deaf by the cultural vandalism of the baleful cacophony devised by the Leftist culture warriors; their minds corrupted by three generations of baleful propaganda designed to destroy “The West” – that you still regard as extant and worth saving. I admire your loyalty, but it is not.
Let those who sowed the seeds reap the terrible harvest. It is still uncertain whether that will be totalitarian communism aka [any euphemism you care to choose] or a rampaging Caliphate imposed by the deadly cocktail of demographics; terrorism; ‘peaceful’ islam – ha! – (taqiyya) and a gullible, nay, brain-dead indigenous proletariat that is steeped in welfare dependency and victim-hood, refusing to acknowledge the impending dangers.
Unfortunately nature has granted us, as a species, the ability to observe and contemplate our own stupidity and weaknesses – and to some, the concomitant wisdom to understand just how destructive we have (as a species) become. Sadly it seems that the necessary remedial powers (as a species) were denied us. So nature is a very cruel sadist, as ‘history’ has adduced.
Individually, though, we can still have fun and make a freakin’ nuisance of ourselves by taking the wee-wee out of the power brokers who are being slowly hoist with their own petards. And of course attempting to strangle us all with their flailing legs; aye there’s the rub! So duck, dive and jab upwards. You’re unlikely to find any cojones between those flailing limbs, but a sharp stick up their jacksies could be effective (but even that might bring enjoyment to some – most? – of the perverted bastards..

The answer is of course in multiple sub-agendas, many already discussed hereupon, but all of them steeped in insanity.

Just a niggling thought about Syria – is Obama engineering a situation which will force Israel into a corner from which they will have to fight a more outright existential war than hitherto but which will be the pretext for Obama openly breaking the alliance and ties between Israel and the USA?
And just been out to Sainsbury’s in my corner of SE London – bus full to heaving, over 90 people all black Africans except for the one pasty N.Irish pallor of yours truly. This route used to be used mostly by elderly white women out shopping but they simply don’t exist here anymore. Still, another couple of days cosmetic work on my house before it goes on the market, and although I know that a move to Kent, Surrey or East Sussex is only buying me a bit of time, just looking at the estate agent’s websites is maintaining my sanity.
And whilst I’m thinking, if there was a mass campaign to stop paying tax and council tax and TV Licences, then the government would literally have no money and maybe millions would find that, their only attachment to this country being like a leech to blood, England isn’t worth living in anymore. But PAYE means this simple instrument of people power is not available to us, though if nobody paid the TV Tax, it would cause more than a satisfying ripple.

“England isn’t worth living in anymore.”
Not true, some sections of our major cities, Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester and in particular Bradford are to all intents and purposes foreign lands; whose inhabitants do not like us but there are vast swathes of England, Scotland and Wales that are still recognisable as being almost unchanged and are wonderful to live in.
Remarkable when you consider how the metrosexual elite have tried to change us all.
You might note that I have not mentioned London, this is because London is in many areas a third world country that lives side by side with large areas where there is obscene affluence, as a man from the north, when on matters of business I was forced to visit London I always felt a happy relief when the guard blew his whistle in order to start the train about to leave Kings Cross Railway station travelling north to Gods county.

Of course England is worth living in. For goodness sake. This is our motherland. Our fathers-fathers-fathers for a 1000 years are buried here. Blood and bone. This is our land. We cannot live anywhere else. Stock and stone.
Did our fathers and grand-fathers and great-grand-fathers abandon the conflict against the Hun and the Nazis in two World Wars when the going got tough. Are we so unworthy of their memory.
We find ourselves in a waterlogged trench, and the enemy can be heard just over the devastated expanse of no-man’s land. There will be no football match at Christmas time. There is no escaping back to England except on leave. We fight and win, for hearth and home, or we die trying. There is no other England than this. We live and die here or we cease to be of Englandkind at all.
Blood and bone, stock and stone, hearth and home. Ten hundred years of family sleep around us. While we live it is still England. And will be England again.

“An Islamic television channel has been hit with a hefty fine after a Muslim hate preacher told viewers, live on air, that it was the duty of all Muslims to murder anyone who shows disrespect for the Prophet Mohammed.
Noor TV, a British-based Satellite Television Channel that broadcasts programs about Islam throughout Europe, was fined £85,000 ($115,000) by the British broadcasting regulator known as Ofcom for inciting people to commit murder.
Ofcom said the fine imposed on August 21 was so large due to “the serious nature of the breaches of the Broadcasting Code.” It said young Muslims watching Noor TV could become “radicalized” and take “violent and criminal action as a result of watching videos of Muslims with extreme views.”
Remarkable indeed. No least is that the criminal offence of incitement to murder was abolished in 2007, being replaced by the offence of encouraging or assisting a crime is itself a crime in English law, by virtue of the Serious Crime Act.
So we have numerous criminal acts being committed on TV and being policed, not by the police, but by the quango, Ofcom. Which NGO has the power to levy fines, but not, yet, to convict and imprison those who preach racial hatred on air.It is I suppose, too much to ask that a institutionally cowed and timorous, police ‘service’ reasserted itself and started to enforce the criminal law.
The answer to my question, sadly must be yes. It is too much to expect the permanently confused, politically driven, socialist led organisations which the various forces have noe become to do anything of the sort. Even if the CPS was to countenance such prosecutions, politically chained to the left as they are, would the DPP permit them?
I suspect not. Vested interests would claim that freedoms of speech and religion were being eroded, the adverse publicity to fundamentalist Islam being downplayed.
So we are left in this madcap world, with the only protection seemingly available from preaching of an ancient, visceral hatred being provided by the communications regulator.
Would we be happy if OfWat was left as the sole guardian protecting the public interest, responsible for prosecuting and fining terrorists who poisoned the public water supply?
Of course not, so nor should we be when intellectual poison is poured down the rivers and streams of our communications networks. The poison cmay be less quick acting and direct than tipping potassium cynaide into a reservoir, but it is no less deadly in the end.
I was woken up to join a conference call, so had an early sighting of dispatches from England in the Daily Telegraph. The two which have struck me so far are:
1. that the Prime Minister is under pressure to recall Parliament to enable a vote to be held on the imminent Syrian adventure. I am sure that Obama’s handlers will ensure that something very unpleasant happens to Mr. Cameron if he listens to such siren voices;
and,
2. that Christian girl guides were forced to swear the new secular oath omitting ant reference to God. This is just an outrage presumably perpetrated by mature Scouts and Guides who themselves voluntarily bound themselves by an oath which DID refer to God. They have therefor broken their oaths and should be drummed out of the service after their insignia of rank have been ripped from their uniforms and their swords (or scout’s knives) broken across the knee of the most senior Scout or Guide still favouring the honourable position that Christian scouts or guides be allowed to take the old oath should they so wish.
These are two examples why newspapers should be read just after awaking, not just before a chap tries to go back to sleep.
A few weeks old, but all the better for being read in retrospect, and offering a view for much of Britain’s post industrial landscape.
Mark Steyn wrote a brilliant piece on the urban zombie that is now Detroit:-
“…the physical decay of Detroit – the vacant and derelict lots for block after block after block – is as nothing compared with the decay of the city’s human capital. Forty-seven percent of adults are functionally illiterate, which is about the same rate as in the Central African Republic, which at least has the excuse that it was ruled throughout the Seventies by a cannibal emperor. Why would any genuine innovator open a business in a Detroit “innovation hub”? Whom would you employ? The illiterates include a recent president of the School Board, Otis Mathis, which doesn’t bode well for the potential workforce a decade hence.
Given their respective starting points, one has to conclude that Detroit’s Democratic Party makes a far more comprehensive wrecking crew than Emperor Bokassa ever did. No bombs, no invasions, no civil war, just “liberal” “progressive” politics day in, day out…”
If you weren’t crying, you’d have to laugh.

Looking at an impending hyper-inflationary depression, how prepared are we?
“The average household in the U.S. for example has $3,000 in retirement funds; and if you take the 55-64 year-old group, they have $12,000 in retirement funds…76% of Americans today are one paycheck from bankruptcy.”

Noa (17:11)
Yes you are right. The perfectly practical common law offence of incitement to murder was over-ridden in October 2008 when the ‘Serious Crime Act’ 2007 was finally enacted, though it still can be used for cases that pre-date the act.
Another perfect example of legislation devised for political purposes and to make lawyers money.
The laws that existed in 1954 when I took the oath of office were adequate to deal with all types of crime. Reclassifying homicide, assault and other offences against the person in all its forms (including sexual assault and exploitation) and theft in all its forms, has done nothing to prevent societal ills and done much to politicise policing the the dispensation of justice in a deleterious fashion. Adding racial and sexual discrimination clauses to statutory law was unnecessary and counter productive. Orwellian ‘thought crimes’ are deeply oppressive.
The excuses used to justify these changes have been at best risible and at worse deeply criminal per se, by any moral meter.
Of course current history is already being written by the vandals who have perpetrated this cultural barbarism, so future generations will be unaware of their crimes against humanity.
And ‘popular culture’ has already heaped calumny upon calumny upon those who dispensed law ‘n’ order in the immediate post-war generations: myths of the racial discrimination lobby and the victim culture that has been allowed to fester and were encouraged by Sheehey, Scarman, Macpherson, et al. the useful idiots that wittingly or unwittingly sponsored and facilitated Gramsci’s Long March.
Traitors all. And the top cops of the 1990s and the new century to date are the worst traitors of all, for simply letting it happen in return for ‘honours’ and an easy life. Shitbags!

I have recently read two books which put the record straight and excoriate New Labour for the totalitarian one state party which it was, and remains.
For an excellent view of Labour and New Labour’s malign justice strategy and purpose, from Roy Jenkins’ replacement of proactive beat policing with ‘unit beat policing’ to the chaos of Blair and Browns 4500 plus new crimes I recommend
Peter Hitchens’ “The Abolition of Liiberty” and Philip Johnson’s “Bad Laws”.

Jones’s introduction of Balagia starts at 1:14 hours in and Balagia himself first speaks at 1:17:52. After a lengthy break for commercials, the interview picks up again at 1:24:16 with the main body of the interview and continues with one further break down to 2:05.

This is a footnote to the exchanges we had last week on the wisdom or otherwise of the American people convening a Constitutional Convention under Article V of the US Constitution..
Here linked below is a short video showing the long line leading out a library into a town in Long Island for the signing a few days ago of “The Liberty Amendments” by American talk show host, Mark Levin:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiOPsDk5rOA
Now, the line may comprise a dying class of middle-class,middle-aged and senior, literate, white, Americans but where are our own politically-focused talk shows, educating and showing the way to those in the United Kingdom who still try to think for themselves? Whittle, Levin, Beck and Savage – are there any people like these in England? It’s a long shot, and they know it, but they may yet save the United States -and the West – from authoritarianism and cultural dissolution.
Debka says the nerve gas shells exploded among civilians in Damascus last week were fired by the 155th Brigade of the Syrian army’s 4th Division, under the command of President Bashar Asad’s younger brother Gen. Maher Assad, and from a location where the chemical weapons were known to be stored.

The region reported to be the site of the poison gas attack by Assad forces, Eastern Ghouta, was re-secured from the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Jabhat al-Nusra jihadist terrorists, by Government troops in May as part of a major series of rollback victories against the insurgent forces and is not currently a scene of any major resistance to Assad forces.

“The housing starts figures were released, and they were surprisingly lousy. On this basis, I believe the Fed will continue to buy US debt (nobody else wants it), and I believe QE will continue until the Fed’s balance sheet passes four trillion and keeps on going. So what’s Bernanke’s “exit strategy?” I think Bernanke’s exit strategy is that he’s going to exit Washington as soon as he can — that will be his real exit strategy.”

““Whenever destroyers appear among men, they start by destroying money, for money is men’s protection and the base of a moral existence. Destroyers seize gold and leave to its owners a counterfeit pile of paper. Paper is a mortgage on wealth that does not exist, backed by a gun aimed at those who are expected to produce it. This kills all objective standards and delivers men into the arbitrary setter of values. Gold was an objective value, an equivalent of wealth produced. Paper is a check drawn by legal looters upon an account which is not theirs: Watch for the day when it bounces, marked “account overdrawn.” ” (Ayn Rand) [Ibid.]
