When questions are asked about the violent actions of Muslim terrorists around the world it is necessary to insist that not all Muslims are terrorists, and not all Muslims support violence in the name of Islam and Allah. But there are significant numbers of Muslims living in the West who are repeatedly willing to tell pollsters that they do support a variety of forms of violence. It would surely be a failure of Government not to take account of these numbers of Muslims who do believe in the justification of terrorism and who are living among us, just as it was necessary for Government to take account of the minority of people of Irish background who believed that violence in support of Irish political ends was justified without implicating all Irish people.
The results of recent polls do not make happy reading.
75% of young Muslims in the UK want women to wear the hijab or burkha.
40% of all Muslims want Sharia Law to be introduced into the UK.
33% of Muslim students believe that killing is justified to protect Islam.
33% support the establishment of a worldwide caliphate based on Sharia Law.
36% of young Muslims in the UK believe those who leave Islam should be killed.
13% of young Muslims in the UK admire Al Qaeda.
24% of British Muslims believe that the 7/7 bombings in London were justified.
16% of British Muslims support suicide bombing in Israel.
7% of British Muslims support suicide bombing in the UK.
50% of British Muslims believe that British people who insult Islam should be arrested and prosecuted.
Any one of these statistics should be a cause for great concern, but taken together they represent a present danger to the security of the British people. Surely this demands an appropriate response from Government? If we take the fact that 13% of young Muslims admire Al Qaeda, and that 7% of all British Muslims support suicide bombing in the UK, what sort of numbers of people are we talking about? If we assume there are 2 million Muslims in the UK then 7% of the population equates to about 140,000 Muslims.
What does this mean? 140,000 Muslims in the UK believe that it is OK to maim and kill innocent people in the wider British community in the name of Islam. More than that, however, if 7% of the Muslim population is willing to tell a pollster that they support suicide bombing in the UK, then it is reasonable to conclude that some additional percentage of the Muslim population also supports suicide bombing in the UK but would not wish to divulge their attitudes.
We have seen over the last few days the harm that even a small cell of violently minded Muslims can cause in a town or city in the West, and the events in Boston are still ongoing. Even over the last week we have seen a gang of Muslim terrorists sentenced for beginning to plan their own atrocities here in British cities. But there are more than just four such supporters of Muslim violence. By their own admission there are at least 140,000 such supporters of violence here in the UK.
What will our Government do about this real and present danger to the British people, both Muslim and non-Muslim? After all such terrorists tend to be entirely indiscriminate in their use of violence. Will it continue to do nothing? Or much worse, will it continue to appease and privilege the Muslim community as if the threat posed by a terrorist supporting minority will be reduced by satisfying an increasing list of demands. If the Government will do nothing then surely those of us at risk should speak out. 140,000 supporters of domestic terrorism are 140,000 too many.
PfM – “What will our Government do about this real and present danger to the British people, both Muslim and non-Muslim?”
Well, P from M, you, too are guilty of political correctness and pandering to muslim “sensibilities”. “danger to the British people” should have been enough to cover everyone born in Britain.” Why did you feel compelled to add the politically correct, “both Muslim and non-Muslim”? Surely “British people” covered it?
This Boston Marathon bombing has nothing to do with Muslims, but everything to do with the American diet which is high in sugar and trans fats. So stop implying that the two suspects were Muslim jihadists; that is judgmental and wrong.
Austin Barry – You are correct! Also, a lot of them colour their hair blond and the dangerous dyes can leach through the tiny pores in the skin of the skull and slowly, over the years, work through the bone into the brain itself. Many people don’t know this. I suspect the bombers had been dying their hair black, which can have the same effect as bleach. That is why one of those suspected was wearing a baseball cap backwards. He had to keep the dangerous chemicals from leaching out of his skull onto his face.
Also, P from M In the context of your post, “Why did you feel compelled to use us as the exception, as in “both Muslim and non-Muslim”? Surely it would have been more realistic, historically, if nothing else, to write, “Both native British and muslim.” ? And why do you make us the exception, the minority, in our own land, as in: “both muslim and non-muslim? Why do we have the negative attached and present muslim as the norm?
Do you have any references to these recent polls?
I have been reading the correspondence column in The Mail Online and I am shocked at the literacy level of so many of the posters. Their spelling tells us that they never read a book. Even if they were criminally poorly served at school, surely if they ever read a book they would pick up spelling subliminally.
The spelling in all too many instances tells us that the ony written word many Brits ever read i headlines in the papers and short, easy messages on the TV screen.
Fek them all,if they want phisycle lets give them it,treat like with like,Then we will find out just how tough these low life terrorist are lets see how they would like it ah ah get of yer bellies brits and lets show these nuggets what we are made of,NOW,
