Would it be easier and more comforting to believe that in a hidden chamber, deep below the Metro in Paris a secret society are directing all the affairs of the world as if they were puppet masters. A little tug on a string here, a little jerk there, and the Governments of the world act like so many marionettes. If this were the case then we could blame forces beyond our control for leading us into the situation we find our British society facing. It wouldn’t be our fault if a powerful, ancient and secretive group of men were behind everything that we found most disturbing and destructive of our traditional British way of life.
I don’t believe that. There are certainly lots of shadowy meetings of shady men and women who wouldn’t want everything they discussed to come out into the open. And there are other groups with dangerous ideas which they are quite happy to publicise, as Delingpole describes in his book, Watermelons. But I don’t believe there is one co-ordinating group of people that might be called the Illuminati and feature in a Lara Croft or Sherlock Holmes film.
For one thing, who would make up this cabal of the world’s elite? Does Baroness Ashton preside, using her cover as the EU’s most unlikely, inexperienced and incompetent official? Or does Tony Blair fund the group’s activities from his unexplained and unaccountable wealth? It would be difficult to imagine David Cameron as anything but the office junior, bringing tea and coffee to the gathered autocrats and making sure they were provided with pens and headed Illuminati paper. And is it possible, even in the realms of fantasy, to imagine a secret organisation in which Ed Balls, Ed Milliband or Vince Cable had any place?
If we look beyond the shallow, muddy pool of British politics can we find likely candidates for the sort of evil genius the Illuminati would require in their members? What about Silvio Berlusconi? He must surely have some sort of inate political ability. He has wealth and influence beyond even Tony Blair’s dreams. He has somehow managed to avoid conviction in twenty criminal case’s and still has the intention of remaining at the political top table. Maybe we enjoy laughing at such a figure of fun in the UK. But perhaps his $6.2 billion dollar fortune allows him the luxury of laughing last and longest.
In fact Berlusconi is an interesting figure because earlier in his career he was exposed as a member of P2, just the sort of shadowy organisation that we might imagine the Illuminati to be. It was a secret Masonic lodge whose members included politicians, businessmen, the heads of the intelligence services and the military. They were linked to several serious criminal activities including murder, corruption and the collapse of the Vatican Bank. It was even active in Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina. It’s surely reasonable to wonder whether such an organisation would simply dissolve itself as required by Italian law.
And if P2 really existed, and probably still exists, then why not other networks of politicians, businessmen, intelligence chiefs and the military in other countries and situations? Of course in many of these networks politicians may well be the junior partners. It is difficult indeed to imagine any of our current crop of parliamentarians being trusted with any great secrets. Is Gordon Brown an unfortunate victim of his overweening ambition, or deliberately hiding his ability under a bushell? I’d plump for the former. But that doesn’t mean that there are not some very able people who don’t parade themselves in public and within a narrow scope have some plans which are pretty hostile to our liberty and democracy.
Someone wants to implement the ‘Snooper’s Charter’ for instance. I’m not convinced that this is at the behest of either Cameron or Clegg. Both seem willing to abandon any principle for short term political advantage. But there is a group somewhere, with its hands on the levers of power, which wants to tip us towards a more authoritarian government in which white British people will be disproportionately subject to restriction.
I don’t think there is one worldwide Illuminati organisation. And I don’t think British politicians would rank very highly in any case. But history, even recent history, reveals to us various groups who exercise an anti-democratic and malign influence over nations and continents. In the UK we are probably wise to be concerned about the activities of Common Purpose, about the network of Marxists leading the largest Trade Unions, and infiltrating political parties, and especially about the shadowy financial organisations who seem to be able to place their own men and women in the highest positions around the world.
Perhaps those we should fear the most are those whose names and faces we don’t know. The movers and shakers in the shadows. Our own political class is no more in control of their destiny than we see to be. They are equally pawns in someone else’s game. We should rightly hold them in contempt. We have allowed the political class to act as though our democracy belonged to them, and was in their gift. We should not be surprised to discover that they have sold it to the highest bidder. It does not belong to them. It never belonged to them. But if we want it back we must fight for it and our enemy is not ultimately the political class, they have become increasingly irrelevant. It is the men in the shadows we must rouse ourselves against. Bringing them into the light will expose them and their agendas but is there anyone left with a bright enough torch?
Peter
Thank you, a very interesting read.
Like you, if there were to exist such a Group, I don’t think many politicians would be members: partly based their recognisability.
As Selina and Malfleur previously alluded, I think the power would lie with the major financiers. Hence, I’d ask, who are the very top figures in Banking? Or is this just fanciful?
I think this is right, Peter.
There is no formal organisation, but there are people who are rich, powerful and connected and who treat the masses with contempt and who co-ordinate themselves to such an end.
For example, big business has decided it wants cheap labour and so supports politicians with mass immigration agendas.
You see the quid pro quo there: one wants ideological change, the other wants to exploit people for money.
They may not see eye to eye on everything but they look to do deals with each other.
And we all know the easiest way to become a millionaire is to bag a government contract.
That’s the sort of clique we have here.
Yes, a very interesting read.
I’ve said it before, and I’m going to say it again 🙂 , when so many people from so many disparate walks of life and politics etc. are starting to say some of the same things that David Icke has been saying for the last 20 years, then surely something has got to up, eh?
Maybe it can be simply explained by the fact that “we” have all subconsciously realised that the days of “The West” (i.e. civilisation as we know it) are numbered and we need some one to blame. Hey, it must be the Illuminati. The bastards!
For those who are concerned about a snoopers’ charter, then consider the proposition that GCHQ are ALREADY probably logging all your emails and blog comments.
Here’s an informative interview with William Binney, whistleblower and former NSA crypto-mathematician who served in the agency for decades. He says that the Yanks are downloading and storing damn near the entire internet on a daily basis – just in case it is needed! Dang me if he didn’t also come out and call Al O’B, and a lot of others, traitors too!

Glenn Beck’s been going on about the men ( and women ) in the shadows for years. Next thing you know, he’s been ‘ disappeared ‘ from Fox. But then, he’s the crazy one, right ?
Peter, Baron favors the cock-up theory of the world in preference to any shadowy groupings either with or without Berlusconi running things except for what Selina hints at, the confluence of interests, a case where two or more universes of power benefit simultaneously. Her open border policy is an excellent example, Brown, closing both eyes to the breaking of rules, awarding trinkets to the banking Freds for the receipts they were furnishing the Treasury with is another case. Could it ever last though, such a cosy, almost serendipitous arrangement?
