I don’t think we expect much of our venal and corrupt political class. But at the heart of the tacit agreement between us and them is surely an expectation that when push comes to shove we can depend on them to protect us, to do what is necessary for our national survival. In the First World War the sons of the ruling and political classes were as likely to experience death and injury as those of the working classes. Of the 5650 Old Etonians who served, 1157 were killed, and many more were injured. A generation of Conservative politicians had experience of defending the United Kingdom at risk of their lives. Anthony Eden had been a Major in the First World War and been awarded the Military Cross. Macmillan was wounded in the Somme.
But now we have a generation of professional politicians who have generally risked nothing more than their reputations. When an MP actually speaks his mind, or rather the mind of the people, it is unexpected. Conservative MP, Bob Stewart, has demanded that hate filled Muslim extremists should be put on a plane and sent back to their homelands. That’s more than any cabinet member will say. But Bob Stewart has served in the army.
Unfortunately Michael Adebolajo seems to have been born in Britain, and it is to be hoped that he will spend the rest of his life in prison. His family don’t appear liable to blame since he was brought up in a strict Nigerian Christian household and became a Muslim when he was about 16. But who influenced him? It seems it was Choudary’s group, Al Muhajiroun. Was anyone alerted as he became more aggressive in his attitudes? How was it possible for him to try to travel to Somalia to fight with Muslim terror groups there and not be arrested and charged, and taken off the streets? Indeed how is it possible that we face such a growing threat from those who live among us, and who have been treated so generously by the British people? It is surely because those who should protect us and ensure our national survival have failed in this essential duty and are even complicit in increasing the threat.
Someone like Adebolajo is responsible for his own wicked actions, but how is it that those who peddle Islamic hate are free to go about their evil business? Choudary and the groups around him have influenced a great many Muslims and inspired them to become mujahidin. Why has the Government not shut down what is real hate speech? It’s inaction makes it complicit. Adebolajo can be seen standing directly behind Choudary at a recent Muslim protest. Will Choudary be properly investigated this time and his anti-British rhetoric silenced?
Recent Governments have allowed unlimited immigration of Muslims. There are now perhaps 2 million Muslims in the UK. A Daily Telegraph poll found that about 100,000 Muslims in the UK fully supported the 2005 bombers in London, and 400,000 had some sympathy with them. Not many people will insist that all Muslims are potential terrorists but how can we know which ones are part of the 100,000 willing to tell the Daily Telegraph tbat they support terrorism in the UK? Among the next planeload of Pakistanis will there be 20 who wish us ill, and will there be 75 who have sympathy for those who wish us ill? Statistics would suggest such a view is reasonable, and if it is reasonable, then each day we are placed in greater danger by Government inaction.
If we can’t be sure which Muslims will turn to violence or support others in violence then surely we would expect Government to adopt a precautionary principle? All immigration of Muslims should be halted until some reasonably robust means of profiling is available. When it comes to the protection of the British people the rights of others, if they exist beyond the confines of the Brussels Eurocracy, must come second. If it is Muslims who wish us harm, even if it is not all or most Muslims, then unfortunately all Muslims may be liable to particular restrictions.
But there are also many Muslims who are here on various visas. Does the precautionary principle not suggest that while the British people face such a real but indeterminate threat all visa holders should be required to return to their countries of origin and reapply under a much more searching regime? This is not racism. Muslims from all backgrounds and ethnicities should be subject to stricter controls.
If Muslims cannot or will not isolate those who are filled with hate and violent intentions then it must be done by our Government on behalf of us all. Will our Government step up to its responsibilities? It seems unlikely. Already the talk is of standing together with the Muslim community as if they were equally victimised by such violence, or as if the brave service of British soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan were comparable with the brutality of Adebolajo and his partner.
Will a single Muslim imam spewing incitement to jihad be prosecuted or deported? We had best not hold our breath. To fail to act in circumstances such as these, indeed to allow even more of those who hate us to migrate to the UK, is a dereliction of duty or worse, a form of treason. In the decades when we all expected a nuclear war to overwhelm us we were taught that we must be responsible ourselves if we were to protect out families and survive the apocalypse that might descend upon us. Perhaps we should not wait for politicians to protect us now, perhaps we should not assume that they have our survival at heart.
Yes Peter. We may be entitled to expect courageous and effective actions from our government but we won’t get them.
Expect our plates to be heaped to overflowing with platitudes, evasions, self deception and outright cowardice from an intellectually bankrupt political class that doesn’t have a fcuking clue what to do in the face of the jighadist tsunami that will envelop us all in the next 30 years.
Excellent post.
I can’t express how utterly pessimistic I am when even so-called right-wing commentators describe these vile murderers “as British as you or I.”
“Unfortunately Michael Adebolajo seems to have been born in Britain, and it is to be hoped that he will spend the rest of his life in prison…”
I would like that to be a short life, ending a walk to a scaffold in the prison yard.
While we do absolutely nothing, aided by the Eu and its associated organisations, the Caliphate fighters think they are winning. And they are.
Fraser Nelson made his personal contribution to these events – and how many others? – by reneging on his promise to open a debate on Neathergate in the Barclay brothers periodical, the Spectator, which is called “the Tory house journal” by Daniel Johnson in the current edition of Standpoint which he edits.
Silence also has its consequences.
What is going on at the Spectator? Even Douglas Murray’s short piece on Woolwich is closed to comment. Has the wretched Nelson and his wretched editorial board largely bottled out? Liddle’s blog is still open though. Where’s the sense? Where’s the reason?
They are all part of the anti-British, anti-Christian cultural marxist collective who are starting to see their efforts collapsing. They had hoped for a controlled increase in social disorder to be able to impose even greater restrictions on the white British population but now they are worried that it is all running ahead of them, and maybe the British people will actually stand up for themselves. We must not be allowed to comment at the Spectator. We might discover how many of us there are!
This recent event is clearly NOT the work of a couple of lone extremists. It fits a pattern. It is part of the MO of a large group of devout Muslims and their supporters.
Indonesia, 2013: Basri should have received the death penalty for the murder of 3 Christian schoolgirls. The three girls, Theresia Morangke and Yarni Sambue, both 15, and 17-year-old Alfita Poliwo, had their heads cut off. One of the heads was placed in a bag along on the steps of a church along with a note reading, “We will murder 100 more Christian teenagers and their heads will be presented as presents.” Technically Basri wasn’t freed. He was allowed to go home to visit his “sick wife” and then left unguarded for hours. In a completely inexplicable set of circumstances that the authorities could not have possibly imagined would occur… he escaped.
New York, 2013: Authorities in New Jersey allege a Muslim man beheaded two Coptic Christians, burying their bodies and heads and hands in separate graves near Philadelphia, bringing the horror of the persecution of Christians in Islamic nations to the United States. According to New York WABC-TV, the Muslim was identified as Yusuf Ibrahim, 28. He was taken into custody after the bodies were found. The report said investigators alleged Ibrahim killed the victims then severed their heads and hands, and buried the remains in the back yard of a home in Buena Vista, N.J. The report said the victims were from the Coptic Christian community in the area. One of the victims had come from Egypt not many years ago. While the report said police did not indicate a motive, friends of the victims wondered if it was something to do with religion.
Tanzania, 2013: A pastor with the Tanzania Assemblies of God (TAG) Church at Buseresere has been beheaded during religious-linked conflicts at Buseresere town, in Geita Region. A spokesperson for the Geita Regional Police Commander’s Office, Mr Denis Stephano, identified the deceased pastor as Mathayo Kachili.
Syria, 2013: Syrian rebels beheaded a Christian man of thirty years and have fed dogs with parts of his body, according to a nun who says that the West ignores atrocities committed by Islamic extremists of the Christian community. She said she found the decapitated body of one of his own on the side of the road, surrounded by hungry dogs. He had just married and was about to be a father. Sister Agnes Miriam Cross, said: “His only crime was to be a Christian.
It would probably be tedious to produce more examples. But these are a small handful from this year. To suggest that Muslims, as Muslims, do not behead people routinely, and in Nigeria they like to crucify Christians, is an outright lie. And the fact that there are Muslims who will appear on TV and condemn these brutal crimes, though good, does not and cannot outweigh the fact that a great many Muslims believe and teach that this behaviour is part and parcel of their religion.
Peter writes.
“If we can’t be sure which Muslims will turn to violence or support others in violence then surely we would expect Government to adopt a precautionary principle?”
The film actress Angelina Jolie found that she had inherited a faulty gene that was similar to the one that caused the breast cancer and an early death to her mother, having this faulty gene gave Angelina a much higher than normal chance of suffering the same fate as her mother.
Because of this brave young woman has undergone a double mastectomy this drastic measure ensures that she will not now die from breast cancer.
We the English have a huge number of people in our midst who are capable of becoming malignant and some will in effect develop into lethal cancers, like Angelina Jolie we can not be sure when, where and if and so we; like her should remove excise each and every one from England.
David, I don’t disagree in general. But the problem is that there are other possible sources of malignant social cancer.
For instance, what has caused our young generation to lose so much self-respect that a great many spend all weekend drunk, drugged and copulating with random strangers? I don’t find this any less lethal to our future than many hate-preachers. It will end in the same nightmare.
I think that communism is such a cancer. Should all communists also be excised? I think that many social liberals prach a cancer. Should all of them be excised as well.
We must not allow the political class to decide that a focus on Islam will at least allow them to continue their agenda by other means. It is the wider assualt on our liberties and our Christian traditions which is the danger, and this from several quarters.
One whose opinions I trust insists that only a return to Christian values (not necessarily personal Christian faith) can save our nation. And he is not optimistic about that. I see Christian values, in the widest sense, assailed not only by Muslims, but by many others whose intentions are no less likely to lead to the enslavement of traditional English men and women.
Herbert and Clear Memories. If necessary I will stand at the last barricade on the last free English street with my son and we will go down together before the forces of evil. But for now I believe there are other actions which must be taken and which may well prevent it coming to such a pass.
I have spoken in the past about reforming some sort of local Yeomanry. I am always serious. But some here have always chosen to laugh at such ideas. I don’t think it a laughing matter. It is time for action.
It’s not much of a response, but at least it is a start:
The Times: Police ‘must quiz radical preacher’ Choudary
An extremist activist who had close links with one of the Woolwich killers and a range of other convicted terrorists should be the subject of a rigorous police inquiry, the Government’s former reviewer of anti-terrorism legislation said last night.
Lord Carlile of Berriew, QC, [has] led calls for an investigation into Anjem Choudary’s connections with Michael Adebolajo who attended meetings and demonstrations organised by the banned al-Muhajiroun organisation and its offshoots.
Keith Vaz, leader of the Commons Home Affairs Committee, backed the call as an analysis of terrorism cases since 1998 claimed that almost one in five of those convicted had links with al-Muhajiroun.
What is the Government doing. It is their job to protect us and they are failing in every way possible. In fact, they are causing it!
The subtle method does not seem to be working:

There are so many way that we could discourage the threats, yet the authorities appear to do nothing:
Is this country mad? Why is Anjem Choudary, whose poisonous teachings influenced the Woolwich killers, free to draw benefits and tour BBC studios spouting murderous hatred against Britain?

If this poor mother, a probation officer, who went to her friend and neighbour, a 62-year-old security officer, for help about nine months ago after her son dropped out of university, cannot do anything about it, how do we expect anyone else to be effective?
Where is Cameron in all this? Where is the Government? What is Cobra all about if all it does is issue platitudes? It is toothless and a waste of our money, allegedly!
What about a help line for distraught relatives and friends, with Diversity Officers prohibited from manning the phones?
The mother of a suspected Islamic terrorist who allegedly hacked a British soldier to death tried desperately to turn him away from extremism but “could not get through”, according to friends.

Global Jihad – The Future in the Face of Militant Islam
What is the driving force behind Islamic terrorism. Dr. P. Sookhdeo takes an in-depth look at the teachings of Islam past and present, drawing on a wide range of sources including many Muslim writers. He examines aspects of Islam which could motivate violence in its followers. This is an invaluable resource for decision-makers in politics, security, intelligence and the military but will also be of great interest to any reader who seeks to understand Islamic violence in the world today.

Fighting the Ideological War
Islamism is a growing and powerful ideology that tolerates no dissent or rivalry. Yet in recent decades the United States has responded only to the violence that Islamism has generated, not to the beliefs and ideas that drive it. As a result of this failure, Islamist numbers and confidence have grown, and Islamist regimes have taken power in the Middle East and North Africa. So the United States is less safe than it was before 9/11, as is everyone else outside the Islamist fold.
Until the United States understands and confronts Islamist ideology, it will not be able to slow the Islamist revolution and its destructive effects. This collection of essays proposes an effective strategy for countering and defeating the beliefs that motivate Islamists. It examines those beliefs in detail, considers their strengths and weaknesses, and draws on the lessons of past ideological conflicts. Thus it provides invaluable equipment for the war of ideas in which we must now engage.

Peter from Maidstone – 11:29 ‘Fighting the Ideological War’
It is on its way. I had forgotten how much this charity does, with so little publicity.
RobertC, it looks a good book doesn’t it. And yes, they do a brilliant work with little publicity. Patrick Sookhdeo is an important man, a Christian convert from Islam, who should be listened to.
The secret is in the words “foreign policy”. Most Britons do not know this country’s foreign policy, not the covert one at all. The one where MI6 uses Muslim fanatics to destabilise regimes – activities which began in Afghan BEFORE the USSR invaded tom prop up the regime just as NATO now props up Karzai. The CIA and MI6 activities with Saudi Arabia in Dagestan, Central Asia an the Middle East, and Africa. These people talk about the covert warfare they know about and the viewing public has no idea what they are talking about.
We have hoovered up trash from around the world and tried to recruit them as MI6 assets, others as MI5 assets to inform on the others. Unlike the IRA they cannot be bought with cash so are unstable. Samanha Lewthwaite was the daughter of a British soldier and N Irish mother. She is in East Africa, Michael A was arrested in East Africa trying to get into Somalia by Kenyans. No doubt at the request of MI6. Then MI5 tries to recruit him as it has the dirt on him from Kenyan interrogation – a sort of Voluntary Rendition and Interrogation.
Stalin was an Okhrana agent infiltrating the Bolsheviks; Hitler was an Army Intelligent agent infiltrating the DAP under Anton Drexler….and we have a full history of CIA assets like Netanyahu, Karzai, and there are many people round the world who think their governments are corrupt puppets of US/UK interests.
That is what they mean by “foreign policy” rather than the smokescreen we get on TV. There are so many backstories that the public simply does not see because the ruling elites are playing oil money and gas money games with Qatar and Saudi Arabia and using pawns who blowback and stage spectaculars.
Look at Boilingfrog blog from Sibel Edmonds and see how far Bin Laden was used by the US in Chechnya and Central Asia with Turkish cutouts to destabilise Russia

Irish Boy 22:41 … “I can’t express how utterly pessimistic I am when even so-called right-wing commentators describe these vile murderers “as British as you or I.”
Quite right, Irish Boy! Everyone and his dog knows it’s “as British as you or me”. Destruction of national identiity through the use of bad English is a weapon as as powerful as the shot of gun.
