This is the Coffee House Wall for this week. I won’t say that it is your chance to communicate with us, as we are all in this together. It is, nevertheless, the Conservative Blog post that has no particular theme, and where everything is on topic. Let’s just remember that we want to avoid ad hominem attacks on others. We don’t want to engage with trolls. We want to moderate our language ourselves as responsible and mature adults, choosing to use fruity language only where it is necessary. This is our opportunity to show what the Spectator Coffee House Wall could have been like.

  21. I just watched the controversial BBC TV documentary on N. Korea. Maybe I’m wrong, but this lacklustre, dull film made me consider than Obama and Cameron demonise this wretched country for the strangest of reasons. N. Korea has removed all its icons of Marx and Lenin and Sweeney emphasised that this is now an ultra-right, ultra-nationalist country. Shades of the Nuremberg military displays!
    So it is no longer a communist country, no wonder those closet (or not so discrete) Lefties, Obama and Cameron fear it.

    A new report from the Royal Institute of International Affairs has found that biofuels are pretty much a disaster. Author Rob Bailey declares that they are not sustainable, they are hugely expensive, they are not a cost-efficient way of reducing emissions, and that the EU is going to insist that production is ramped up anyway.
    Since the biofuels mandate comes from the EU Commission (which was subverted by the farm lobby), it is, of course, impossible for national governments to do much about this appalling situation.

    I cannot see how it can be anything other than misconduct. Either officials are corrupt or they are incompetent which, given the high levels of these people within their organisations, is misconduct in itself.

    My impression is that the Chinese leadership regards the North Korean request as a failure to give China face – i.e. to show proper respect.

    It makes me wonder whether China will be driven to tell Kim that North Korean irresponsibility has so seriously undermined the spirit of the Chinese/North Korean treaty (about defending N. Korea from attack) that China regards itself as no longer bound by it?

    In other words, wreck their loathesome belief system for them. Turn some mosques into bingo parlours. Others into strip joiints. Others into porno movie houses.

    They would be disconcerted that there was no punishment forthcoming from the mythical allah. There should be a new TV comedy series called “Allah in The Family” about a working class family that has allah come to stay.

They have genes which both cause them to enjoy murdering people – and make them easily persuaded that they will be rewarded for their actions in their afterlives by the bliss of having 72 virgins eternally at their beck and call.

  36. With reference to the planned ‘about-turn’ protest for Thatchers funeral. it appears the demented will be wearing red. This makes it easier for the majority of people, who will be offended by their actions, to place themselves between the dickheads and the cortege, thus denying them their big moment. As for public order issues, I feel sure they will be outnumbered.

    The Plod will be able to identify them easily – faced with the back of a skull, they usually have little trouble rapping it with a stick and, for the general public as a whole, finding oneself face-to-face with one of these demented individuals must surely be frightening and suitable grounds to claim you acted in fear as you clubbed them to the grounds.

The MSM are now making token efforts to cover a horrific case involving the multiple killing of babies in unbelievably squalid and brutal fashion.

    This link a fairly unemotive take on the issue – and, of course, for the Left abortion is not something to get emotive about is it? – but it has an interesting excerpt from a US hearing where a representative from a pro-life organisation is questioned on their stance on how to deal with babies born alive and their policy of not giving medical aid to them.

    That is their policy but the clip shows their Stalinist refusal to acknowledge this in public.

    It is an excellent reminder that there are plenty of people who would be the ideal ready made dehumanised successors to those who staffed concentration camps and the Gulag.

    I looked it up on Google. It’s 13-year cycles or 17-year cycles, not 15.
    The next 13-year cycle is 2014, (Brood XXII), then 2015, (Brood XXIII) then 2024 (Brood XIX). Hope this helps.

  75. My wife and I went to mrs Thatchers funeral today, we watched the procession in fleet street .
    A collection of protesters had gathered nearby but as they booed,the crowd clapped and cheered and easily drowned them out
    We moved around during the service and it was noticeable how the crowd was accepting disent.
    One guy held up a little banner with the word boo ! Written on it.
    Two police went to have a word with him and a women nearby shouted to them remember freedom of speech.
    As the police walked away the crowd cheered and clapped them, leaving the guy to hold his banner.
    Protest was minimal, and the crowd was fantastic, much more than you may hear.
    A good finish for a great lady.

    Later the boyfriend comes home unexpectedly, the young man tries to dress himself, (undressing and dressing can and do in the middle stages look the same) boyfriend throws the young man down the stairs, meanwhile the young woman is keeping shtum.

    This scenario would fit with what little facts are already known.

Of course, there are numerous legitimate scenarios to explain why a drunk should be in an unknown woman’s bedroom in a state of undress. However, the assumption that he is up to no good is most probably the right one.

    The whole problem with society today is that Political Correctness requires that we do not, automatically, believe the evidence of our own eyes and ears but rather consider a plausible and non-critical alternative.

    We all know the Boston Bombers are Muslims but PC requires we consider all alternatives. A white middle aged businessman has to remove his clothes at Birmingham Airport to show the scar proving he has a hip implant when the scanner alarm sounds, yet we know the truth is that white middle aged businessmen are not known for crashing planes into buildings or exploding.     Your interpretation of what is or what isn’t Political Correctness and mine differ considerably.

    It is my belief that; when we say or write what we perceive to be true, right, or proper then we are being as it were ‘correct’.

    When we do not say or write what we honestly believe to be true or when we curb our speech or water down or dilute our true opinions for fear that some might find these offensive then we are being ‘politically correct’.

    To be perfectly honest I sometimes find it difficult to hold a conversation with my two beloved grandchildren, he 19 years she 21 years old, for fear of being told “Granddad you can’t say that” or even what is even worse “Granddad that’s racist”.

    Question why is it deemed to be permissible for one black man to greet another black man with ‘Yo Nigger’ when it would be frowned on to ask your tailor to make you a pair of nigger-brown cavalry-twill trousers?

    Your smoke screen suggestion is entirely plausible.

    But whether it was a smoke screen or not, why did nobody in the Mosque (so far as we know) report it to the police, the FBI or any Homeland Security official?

    I think that the answer to that can only be that none of the people attending the Mosque had any wish, or felt they had any duty whatsoever, to do so.

    Indeed some of them (or maybe all of them) must have believed the rant was fully justified and quietly hoped “their boys” would succeed in whatever they might be planning.

    We should remember Mrs Thatcher’s comment about Islamic terrorism. It was to the effect that she had not heard enough condemnation of it from Muslim clerics.
